I get a warm greeting from Jessie when we get into the studio. He is acts like he is rich and above everybody else. A girl comes over to him while I catch up with him. She ask if they are still On to go to the fanciest restaurant in the colony. He whispers something in her ear and then she giggles.
"We are still on." He says before turning back to me.
"How are you going to afford that?" I confusingly ask.
"Don't worry about it." He pushes me into a dressing room were I am bombarded with stylist. One makes the mistake of grabbing me to pull me to sit down. I push them against the wall with a very sharp eyeliner pencil pressed to their neck.
"I'm not a dress up doll." I mutter before I realize what I'm doing. Jessie rushes back in and grabs the pencil out of my hand and then gives me a disapproving look.
"What is wrong with you? You've changed ever since you've got back from war." He angrily leaves the room leaving me in a chair with terrified stylist asking me if they can do something.
I have barely any makeup on when I walk out of the dressing room. The others are caked in pounds of make up. They are all in pastel tux while I am in a dark maroon dress.
Jessie comes back in with his hair slicked back and he is talking to somebody.
"Just transfer it to my private account." He says and then hangs up. jessie had a private account to something? He's never told me anything about that.
Jessie walks past me and then guides Hex up on stage with him as the show begins to start. I get handed a pair of glasses were I can watch it live. It was new technology they were trying to rebuild after destruction. Alan tells me all these things to me when I ask.
After everyone of them goes up Jessie finally brings me on. Rich women cheer along with their fat wealthy husbands. I sit in the chair beside Jessie.
"Hello, Scarlett. Nice to have you back." Jessie is fake. He doesn't mean anything he is putting into the world. His fake tears and happiness is all just to look good on camera.
"Thrilled to be back." I bluntly say. I lacked excitement to be here again. Jessie's smile fills a little bit while he tries to pick up the energy.
"How does it feel to be going back?" He ask.
"It's not exciting going to go challenge death but I have to for my colony and for the people." I state as he tries to pick up the paste to get it over with.
"Do all the enemies look the same to you?" He smiles. Something clicks inside of me as I realize everything that going on.
Jessie is taking a girl to the fanciest dinner eve and he was talking about a private account. The suite he is wearing now is so decorative there is no way the studio would have bought that for him. Jessie is secretly rich but he wasn't going to share his money. He is just going to hide it and let us work for ourselves.
