I drop the cookie jar. It sails through the air into Jax's arms. He ran under it and caught it before it hit the ground.
Oliver and Alan start giggling.
"Oh my gosh. You two are idiots." I bite back a smile forming on my lips.
"You fell for it." Alan laughs, grabbing a cookie.
Oliver pulls out some stools for us to sit on. The cookies are delicious. I have two of them.
"I didn't think I would still be suffering this long after." I say after the cookie session.
"I didn't even think about it when I killed somebody." Alan says tapping his fingers.
"It was like I was wild fire. Once I started I didn't stop until I ran my course." I quiver at the thoughts of all those dead boys.
"You all should probably getting some sleep and not breaking in to a kitchen." General Logan says from behind us.
We put everything back and then head back to the barracks. I lay down and ponder about how Summerton can advance on our own. We didn't need to waiting for the war to come to us, we need to be the ones stoking it. Summerton needs to add to this war and not but stand by and watch.
Bad dreams keep the thoughts at bay when I fall asleep. I try to fight them away but they don't go. Waking up helps me escape the dreams but then that brings me to a whole new terror.
The early alarm wakes me up. I stretch out of bed and then get ready. We all file into the mess hall afterwards to eat breakfast.
"There is no way you know anything about war." One boy says to me in line.
"Soldier, what's your name?" I order.
"Private Hex Walters."
"Well, private, I suggest you watch what you say to a captain." I grab my food and walk away.
"Way to go Captain Scarlett." Jax laughs.
"His friend, Storm Marshals, is just as bad as him." Oliver grunts.
"What ranking is he?" I ask.
"Private." Alan inspects.
"Looks like if any of the boys want to say any other crap we will just give them Hell week." I threat.
After breakfast the Generals order us to get them to inspection rooms. Us four get inspected first.
"Your lungs need to be pumped." General Hugh waves in a nurse. He slides the tube down my throat as I gag intensely. Once it hits my lungs he turns on the suction. Pain radiates through my body as all air escapes me. Once it's over I throw up. My lungs feel clear and fresh as they carry on with the rest of inspection.
"You have gained more muscle mass." General Logan marks down on his clip board.
"You are absolutely remarkable, Scarlett." General high says before dismissing me.
As I walk out I see Oliver coming out of the other room. We laugh once we see each other. This is how we met before but this time it felt more right this way.
