I was supposed to be angry...hurt. I was supposed to feel hate towards her. I was supposed not to stand the sight of her in front of me.

But instead...want, need, desire and lots of memory on that line, hit me hard.

Mate! Kale exclaimed.

I wasn't breathing. I wasn't moving. I thought my heart stopped.

I heard Kayeel curse under her breath in shock.

It's been six years, three months and fifteen days. Six years.

"Wha - what are you doing here?" Her voice trembled.

I finally sucked in a breath and looked at my men. "Leave." They nodded and walked away to give me the privacy I needed.

I looked at her again. "You have no idea how much I've been..." I took a step toward her but she stepped back, not meeting my eye.

Then I noticed it...she was trembling. And I noticed it again...the girl clutching her leg.

My heart beats thundered behind my breast. She looked like she was...six...

Nickolas! Kale stirred.

I wasn't sure I was breathing anymore.

The girl had been contacting me for a few months now. At first, I thought it was all in my head. I thought I was either going crazy or imagining the voices. Last month, I decided to talk back and we had a conversation...a short one...that convinced me that it was not in my head. I told my mother about it and she asked me to check on it. So, I asked the girl about herself. She was hesitant at first, not like the first time she talked to me. Then she told me she was not allowed to talk to strangers. That I was a stranger because she'd never met me in person before. So I asked her if we could meet.

It was sort of embarrassing to tell my men that I was on an errand to meet an imaginary little girl that I continually heard in my head. So, as a king, I didn't have to explain myself. Just that I had an important meeting, hoping the girl was actually real.

And coming here in these woods we agreed to meet, I again avoided explaining what sort of work we were coming to do. And then her. She was excited to see me for some reason but I was too confused, I needed some time to link Mother and tell her it was real after all.

And before I could tell her, I felt the tension in the atmosphere around...then a delicious scent.

I focused on the tension.

And there it was.

There she was.

My mate.

My lost mate.

With a little girl, with the years of the duration we separated.

Leila squatted down to the girl. She had told me her name was Reyél.
