I was terrified. So freaking terrified.

I knew Leila was mad at me for every reason. And with every word she yelled at me, she was right.

I thought I was going to lose her tonight. I thought they were going to kill my pup. I didn't know how I could live with myself if it happened. I was fucking terrified. And I am still terrified to death.

I hadn't known the situation of Rey's birth. I hadn't understood why Leila was so negative about going back to her Pack. And maybe I wouldn't know, because I wasn't there. The way she talked about it, the trauma and darkness in her eyes. Good Goddess, I didn't know how she survived. I didn't know how strongly she had to fight for both of them.

"They had taken away my baby, Nick and I thought I was gonna die without seeing her..."

I shuddered on the stool counter, feeling the marble under my forearms cold.

"They wanted to kill me without even letting me see her..."

Good Goddess, if they had, I would have lost her and I would've never known if I had a daughter. Or if she even existed. Who knew what they would've fed her against me? If they would've sent her to get rid of me the same way they sent my mate? Maybe they would've fed her the lie that I had killed her mother.

"They ripped her out of me..."

I ran my hands through my messy hair with a wince.

I thought I had done her a favour by letting her go that night. I thought I had shown her mercy.

No.

I had sent her to her death.

"I knew I was going to die..."

"Nick..."

I flinched out of my thoughts.

Leila stood at the other side of the counter holding a mug. She stretched her hand at me, "Tea?"

I took the mug, quickly taking a sip to calm my thoughts.

When the taste hit my tongue, I pulled the mug away and looked at it, speaking without thinking, "Chamomile."

"Yeah." She took a sip from her mug. "We've all had a long night."

After we arrived I asked Kayeel if it were possible to put men around the perimeter for protection. Even though they were tired, they agreed to take turns to watch while giving each other some time to rest and heal.

Rachel had taken us in without question. Leila had taken Rey straight upstairs. Rachel then walked down with towels, a blanket for when I slept on the couch, a hoodie and sweats. She directed me to the bathroom to clean up. Kayeel was taken to a room in the basement to rest up after her wounds were cleaned. She had wanted to be the one to stay in the living room in case anyone attacked but I forced her to get some rest. I cleaned up but Kayeel insisted she dealt with my wounds and this time I let her.
