~LEILA

I was in full panic mode. I couldn't find my daughter...much worse...I couldn't feel her at all.

Nick sat on a couch by the entrance to the living room, his eyes distant and his face pale. Even though I couldn't feel him, his muscles were tout and he was quiet. Dangerously quiet. I didn't know what he was thinking. I didn't even have time to know what he was thinking when I was already worked up with my own thoughts.

Rachel tried calling the neighbours, asking. She kept on telling me not to panic, that she was probably out there messing with us again.

But that was not what worried me.

What worried me was that I couldn't feel her. I couldn't sense my baby.

A doorbell startled me and I ran to get it. I went face to face with one of the co-workers at the diner, Joyce.

"Oh hey, Leila."

My attention went down to where my pup stood in front of her with a flat expression.

I exhaled loudly, relief pouring out of me, that my knees buckled at the same time.

Rachel also came by the door. "Hello, Joyce..." Her eyes went down, "Rey...Goddess, have you any idea how bad you scared us?"

Rey didn't respond as Rachel led her inside.

I tried to maintain a calm tone, "Where did you find her?"

"Oh she looked tired so I took her to my place to rest because I had urgent errands to run. I wanted to tell you but it sort of slipped my mind. But when I returned, she was already up from her sleep and she looked...terrified..."

I turned to look at Rey, inside the house, standing next to the kneeling Rachel who was trying to get a word out of her in vain.

I looked back at Joyce, "Wh...when was this dream?"

"Oh, like fifteen minutes ago. I had to calm her down and then bring her here. I thought you'd be upset if you saw her panicked."

Joyce's house was a ten-minute walk from mine.

I inquired, "Did she tell you what it was about?" My heart was beating out of my chest. I didn't want to think of the possibility in my head.

"No, she didn't. All I know is that it made her upset so I brought her back as quickly as possible." I didn't know how quiet I was until Joyce called my name. "Leila..." She had a concerned look. "...I was saying that I was leaving..."

"Oh, I'm sorry...uhm...good night."

"Good night. And I'm sorry if I worried you. I didn't mean to do that."

"It's okay...I'm just glad she's okay...and safe."

Joyce gave another reassuring smile and walked away.
