It was a hell of a battle to let Leila leave my side after what happened in Ayla's fortress.

I'm not going to leave you to face her alone.

It took everything in me to force her inside. I had to send Rachel to make sure she didn't slip out of their room. I didn't want anyone with me when I talked to Ayla but Max wanted to keep an eye. He knew I was still weak. But I made him promise if things went wrong, he should take my mate and pup and make a run for it.

My mother also chose to stay by my side. Kayeel led other soldiers in different hidden stations in case Ayla posed a threat to me.

Natasha insisted on staying and I didn't know why.

The mansion was pin-drop silent when a huge fog surrounded it. The snow became thick and the cold rattled my teeth.

Boy, is she angry!

I was relieved to hear Kale.

You think I would let you have all the fun?

'You've been awfully quiet.'

I was still mad you wanted to kill us.

'For good reason.' I didn't let him speak further. 'How about you scold me later?'

If we don't freeze to death.

A white silhouette appeared a few feet in front of us. She looked paler than when I last saw her. Her hair looked more white and longer...her eyes more glassy blue. Her lips were pale blue and so were her fingers that held lengthened silver claws. Her white silky dress shimmered throughout her body. Even when she was furious, she still had style.

She looked like an ancient ghost.

Her gaze on me was cold and still.

A chill ran down my spine when a smirk drew on her lips. "Relax, Nickolas, I did not come for you."

I tilted my head. "And yet here you are, a threat on my mansion."

She raised her hand, claws drawing in the air. "Because the traitor I want...is in your house."

"If I knew them, do you think I would've let them breathe?"

"You can be weak sometimes, Nick. Stupid, even. Like the times you held on to that little engagement with Ana...no offense. You're weak even now." She grinned, "I can smell it." I felt Max shift beside me. "You wouldn't stand a chance if I chose to kill you right now."

The tension around us thickened like the fog.

"But relax," She cackled, Like I said, I'm not here for you. If I wanted to kill you, I would have done so when you were still unconscious. Not when you've awakened a few hours ago."
