the school day ended up flying by, the entire day all anyone could really talk about was the game.

the boys were in the locker room getting ready, and the atmosphere was definitely reeking of testosterone.

somehow, chris got stuck talking with james again, and he wasn't too happy about it. chris just wanted to get away from the boy and focus on himself, but of course, james just had to bring up the one person he didn't want to hear about.

"hey, i'm sorry i asked her to come watch me, i didn't think you would care that much." he apologized.

"i don't care. i just know she's gonna purposely try to mess me up. it's like she just finds that shit amusing, but tonight it's not funny, i actually need to play well to impress the college scouts." said chris.

"fuck man, i know, my bad. but good news is she'll probably only be here tonight, after that project gets turned in i won't be talking to her anymore." james snarled.

what he didn't realize, was that matt was close enough to hear this time. while he didn't make any sudden movements, or call him out on the spot, he was livid.

how dare this guy use his best friend like that?

he wanted to get up, he wanted to give him what he had coming, but he couldn't, not right then at least. the boys were all supposed to be coming together to hype each other up for the game, and matt knew if he was the one to ruin that he would never hear the end of it.

chris on the other hand, wasn't phased at all by his comment.

"thank fuck, she's literally like, obsessed with you." he said, clearly annoyed.

james started laughing at this, and after a few more minutes of conversation he left to go to the bathroom before they had to head out to the field.

as soon as he was out of sight, matt stormed over to chris, pulling him in close by the arm.

"why the fuck did you not tell me he was actually playing mavis? from what she said it just sounded like you were making it up to make her mad." he asked.

"huh?" chris questioned, not understanding matt had overheard.

"why didn't you tell me?" matt repeated, and chris finally realized james hadn't been quiet enough this time around.

"because you probably wouldn't have believed me either, you always take her side." chris sighed, wanting the discussion to end.

"i would have believed you. if she heard it from me she probably would've listened! why did you just let him do this shit? do you seriously not care at all?" matt said harshly.

"i obviously don't. look matt, she's the one that didn't wanna listen. it's not my fault she's stuck up. at this point she deserves it for being such a fucking idiot." chris seethed.

"what is wrong with you? she's gonna be fucking devastated when she finds out, she's literally coming here to watch him and everything. you know how much mavis hates this shit, and she's coming because she likes him that much!" matt yelled out in frustration.

a couple of the guys in the locker room shot them some weird looks, so matt stopped talking for a moment until the attention was drawn away from them.

"i'm gonna tell her. i'm not having her sit there the entire game just to be humiliated." matt declared.

"seriously? before the game?" chris asked as if that were a terrible idea.

"seriously? you think how james feels is more important than how mavis feels? i will never understand why you hate her but regardless of the fact that you do, you shouldn't want to see her get hurt." matt looked at him in disbelief, while chris simply turned his head and looked away.
