❥ ✧ ❥ ✧ ❥ ✧ ❥ ✧ ❥ ✧ ❥ ✧ ❥ ✧ ❥ ✧ ❥ ✧ ❥the weekend flew by and before either of them knew it, mavis and chris were sitting side by side at the front of their chemistry class.
no one had dared to say a word about chris after they caused him to fall unconscious, which made the room kind of... dead quiet.
chris was looking around, anxiously fiddling with his fingers as he accepted all the eyes that would likely not leave his face anytime soon. he hated the feeling of being judged, not only for something he couldn't control, but for something he didn't even understand.
when he felt a soft hand brush his arm, he immediately snapped his head over to the person, thinking it was one of his rather invasive classmates.
when he both remembered and physically saw it was just mavis next to him, he calmed down.
"don't worry about them, just focus on yourself." she spoke softly, which kind of soothed the boy.
he didn't know how to focus on himself, so he decided to pick the next best thing. focusing on mavis.
he observed her as she reached into her backpack to grab her pencil case and books, sprawling them all out over her desk. he watched as she started to write the title of the lesson from the board on a fresh page in her notebook, finding she was left handed.
her writing was practically flawless, every letter detailed with a specific type of curve that he thought no one else could do. he definitely couldn't anyway.
"i didn't know you were left handed." said chris.
the redhead looked up at him, not having expected him to be watching her.
"oh, yeah, i am." she replied, smiling faintly.
just then, the intercom made a loud ringing noise, signalling the principle was getting on to make an announcement.
there was some shuffling background noises and then finally, her voice came through.
"good morning students, we understand that the incident on the home opening game of lacrosse this year has raised questions for many, but it is important you keep those to yourselves. christopher sturniolo has a severe concussion and has experienced some brain damage, resulting in memory loss. no one, i repeat no one, is to tell him of anything or confront him about what he used to do. it is important to make him feel comfortable. staff has already been informed of this, and i expect everyone to... handle themselves accordingly as we also welcome back james carter today. thank you, and enjoy the rest of your day." the ringing came back for a brief moment, before the sound of the principle putting the phone down clipped it off.
first of all, that was one way to make someone they wanted to feel comfortable extremely uncomfortable, and second of all, why the fuck were they allowing james back in the building after what he did?
mavis slammed her fist down onto the top of her desk, causing a very loud bang to alert the entire class.
"THAT'S BULLSHIT!" she screamed, chris watching with wide eyes.
he wasn't the only one, i mean, mavis matthews wasn't exactly known to argue with authority, or cause a scene in a classroom. this was a sight to see for many.
