mavis was currently sitting at home sulking after her awful day of school. there was some sort of hole inside her, and she hated the feeling it was giving her.

matt had promised to come over after he visited chris, and she was dying to hear how he was doing. while she knew staying away was the right thing to do, she still wanted to get updates and know everything that was going on with the boy.

she had wrapped a fuzzy white blanket around her body, cocooned on the couch as she watched the summer i turned pretty, just like nick and briar had begged her to do.

when she heard her front door swing open, she knew matt had arrived.

his figure appeared in front of the tv screen, and he shot her a sympathetic look before grabbing the remote off of the coffee table and pausing the show she was watching.

"did you go to school today or have you been sitting here all day?" matt asked her, not knowing since he avoided school that day himself.

"no, i went." mavis responded blankly.

"of course you did." he smiled slightly, before plopping down beside the girl.

"how was he today?" she asked, sitting up a little so she could get a better look at matt's face.

"he was... the same. he still doesn't remember much beyond our childhood, like with just me him and nick. he did mention you though." matt told her, making her eyes widen.

"wait, mentioned me from memories?" she perked up, hope building within her chest.

"no, he just asked why you didn't come back to visit him and stuff, i think he wants you to come by again. he asked me if you guys were friends and i didn't really know how to answer." matt admitted.

"oh." her face dropped, losing the feeling she had just developed.

matt decided to leave out the comment his brother had made because, well, it didn't mean anything anyways.

chris didn't know what he was saying regardless, and he didn't want mavis to feel even more uncomfortable around him than she already was now that he didn't really know her.

"so, do you wanna go see him tomorrow?" matt questioned.

"i don't know, matt. this shit is just really hard because i know if he remembered me he would probably want me as far away from that hospital as possible. it just feels wrong." she sighed.

"mavis, he wants you there now. shouldn't that be more important than whatever sentiment you still feel towards him?" he asked.

"i guess." she let out a breath.

"do you wanna take the day off school tomorrow and go in the day, or just go after school?" matt smiled slightly at her change of heart.

"we can go after school." she said.

she didn't want to fall out of routine. it was good for her, keeping a sense of familiarity in her life. it was what she needed at the moment.
