Chapter 42: Escape

Ayla's POV

Everything was going well.

Jimin, Issy, and the two couples were all having a good time in this firefly-filled place that illuminated the darkness surrounding us. Jungkook was doing well and he wasn't showing any signs of getting under the control of the natural desire to kill and feed on humans. He seemed to have completely taken control of his wolf.

A little while later, Jungkook had to go. We were left here and decided to wait for him to finish. I even heard his victorious howl that put a wide smile on my lips. He had overcome it and as a fellow wolf, I can't be happier than I am now. Though I am still curious as to how he was able to take control so fast and easily when it took me years before I could take control of my wolf.

Was it because of me? It's only an assumption but, maybe him getting to be with his kind helped him to gain control of his wolf. Who knows? We're both young and I don't know much about our kind. All I know and I'm aware of is that there are more of us out there living among humans.

"At first it was terrifying, but if you actually take a look at Jungkook's wolf form, he actually looks good and unreal," Taehyung said while watching the glowing fireflies float above him.

"I thought werewolves only appear in books and movies, not real and just made up by humans. Damn, how wrong we are. Some books describe them to be grand and legendary, I mean they aren't wrong. Jungkook's a proof. But of course, we never expected them to be real and so when you come face to face with one, you'll see a monster instead." Hoseok said and lay down on the blanket, placing his arms behind his head for support.

I'm not new to this kind of conversation. I've heard people talk about us from the places I have been. When I was a child I also thought that we were only a myth, but here I am, one myself.

"You told us you knew about Jungkook's kind, right Ayla?" Jimin sat beside me. "How did you know about them?" He asked. I sighed as I thought of what to say to them.

"It was a long time ago. A wolf saved me when I was kidnapped and locked in a rundown cabin. The forest was vast much like this one and I was lost. I was a kid back then and I needed someone to depend on. That wolf stayed by my side when I was lost in that forest. He'd tell me stories about them, who they are, and all that. He introduced me to his small pack, they were all nice and kind to me. Then I had to go home and he, my wolf friend, helped me and guided me out of the forest. That was the last time I saw him, I never saw him again after that." I'm pretty sure they wouldn't know it's just made up.

I can't tell them I am a wolf, seeing as how they reacted to Jungkook's revelation, they'd probably feel betrayed since I stayed with them longer than Jungkook and they're only knowing this now.

"You mean, there are a lot of Jungkook's kind in this world?" Jimin asked. Well, they're looking at one right now, not that they know that.

"Mhmm. From what I can remember from what my wolf friend's pack said, they're all scattered in this world, living among humans." I saw how they all gulped simultaneously. Issy was visibly shaking. I sighed and stood up, looking up to gaze at the bright full moon.

But that's all I know. We're everywhere, but what exactly is our purpose here in this world? Why do we exist, what are the others doing? Who among our kind succumbed to the natural desire and became wicked and who are those who just wanted to live peacefully with humans?

I have a lot of questions I want to be answered. Just like what I have told Jungkook, I have met other wolves before I came here. I sensed them and they probably did too. But neither I nor they approached each other. We'd make brief eye contact as if telling each other 'I know what you are.' And after that, we'd never cross paths again until I encounter another one in another country and the same thing would just happen. After pondering about it, those wolves I've met are probably the ones who chose to lay low. But then again, I'm just assuming things.
