I always park in the same parking lot at school, a good walking distance from the building, near a hill with an old chipped white paint picnic table.
I pull into the spot that day and I see Jeremy, the boy who crushed my heart the year prior , he had cheated on me with a girl named Mia. I ran out on him.
I honk my horn, he was just standing there not moving. He went up to the side of my window and I slightly heard him say "Can we talk?"
I get out of the car. "What the hell do you want?"
He had light brown hair and green eyes, the only thing that made his entire self slightly attractive.
"I just wanted to apologize," he said.
"Save it, and you are a little late for that."
"I was just trying to have a normal conversation," he says.
"Well how about you go talk to Mia then," I say as I start walking toward the school.
"She broke up with me."
"Ha- well karma is a bitch isn't she?" I say as I walk into the school building picking up my pace.
I ran into my best friend Lilith. "Why were you with Jeremy?" She asks.
"He wanted to... apologize," I say in air quotes.
"Fill me in with the entire conversation," She says.
"You won't be impressed," I say.
Lilith has always hated Jeremy.

I was scrolling on my phone sitting against my car after school, I looked up to see lilith with someone I knew was familiar.
"Bliss?" I ask as I put my phone in my pocket.
She smiled at me. Bliss Lilith and I used to be friend in middle school but she moved away the summer before freshman year. We have tried to talk over the past four years but we eventually fell out of touch.
"My mom has to travel for shows so I am back with my Grandma."
Bliss's mom is a famous ballet dancer we used to go and see all of her shows.
"We should go to dinner tonight, if you are free of course," I suggest.
"Of course, meet you at Locking at seven?"
"See you then," Lilith and I say at the same time. As she walks away.
"Want a ride home Lilith?" I asked.
"Thank you so much."
***
"Why are you on your phone? I am trying to focus and you keep sending me videos." I say as I look up from my math.
"I just don't have any interest in doing it," she says.
"Whatever."
Lilith was going to fail school and I am pretty sure she is fine with that.
"We have got to go, like right now," I say as I pick up my backpack.
"Are you really bringing that with you?" Lilith asks.
"I need to get this done, you can drive," I say as I toss the keys.
This is going to be so awkward we don't know anything about each other. To be honest, I think the only reason Lilith and I are bestfriends is because she left. I was always the one left out.
When I walk into the front doors of Locking, Bliss is sitting at a table with someone else. Lilith and I look at each other.
"Who is that?" She whispers in my ear.
"I have no clue."
Lilith lets me walk first. I sit down at the corresponding end of the table.
"Hello, and who are you?" I say as Lilith sits next to me.
"I am Melody, Bliss's girlfriend," The girl with auburn hair freckles and bright green eyes says to me.
Of course I am happy for the both of them, but this is going to be so much more awkward now.
"So, how has life been?" I ask.
**************************************************
"Oh my god! That was so awkward!" Lilith says as we both get in the car.
"I know, Melody seems really nice but everyone was so stiff."
That dinner was not worth recapping we didn't even talk.
"I want to go to the mall, I really want a pretzel," Lilith has some kind of obsession with soft pretzels.
"Fine, let's go."
When we walk in the mall entrance I try to keep Lilith's mind focused on why we came here.
When we get to the line, Lilith wants go look at one of the other stores so she gives me some of her cash.
When I get to the counter I see a boy with dark brown middle parted hair and dark brown eyes. He had on his work apron, on top of a navy blue sweatshirt and pants. The name tag he had on had his name written on it, Nathan.
"Hi, What can I get for you?" The boy asks as I get to the counter.
"Um... I'll have two pretzels and two lemonades," I say as I give him the cash, already knowing what the price is going to be.
I go and sit with Lilith as I wait for the food.
I see the boy walk toward me.
"You forgot your change." He says while he gives me the cash and the receipt.
"Thank you."
"What's your name?" Nathan asks.
"Destiny," I say.
I smile as he walks away handing Lilith the cash.
"Omg, Destiny. He left his number."
