I could hear the nervousness in Nathan's voice but he kept a steady tone. I could hear a slight background noise like he was walking.

"I got kicked out," he admitted.

"What? Why?" The concern in my voice was growing.

"They got questioned by the police and blamed me for getting community service hours. They told me to pack a bag and leave so I did," he explained.

"What the f- hell," I said as I remembered my mom was in the car.

"Yeah, I'll come get you," I continued.

We were still parked in the apartment parking lot and I looked over to see Larrisa knocking on the window. I rolled it down as she spoke. "Mallory, The owners would like to speak with you, and have you sign more papers."

"I'll get an uber, it sounds like Nathan needs you," my mom said.

I smiled as she closed her door. I connected my phone to bluetooth so I could drive.

"Sorry, my mom just got an apartment," I explained even though it probably wasn't a big deal to him right now.

"Oh wow, that's amazing! Good for her," he said with genuine interest.

"Where are you?" I asked him.

"Between Redwoods and Clemena road,"

"I am not too far from that," I know my way around the roads well, my dad always tells me that is critical. He had me drive around the entire town once a day with him for a month just so I would remember.

***

I saw Nathan sitting underneath a stop sign between the two roads. I pulled over to the side of the road and he got in. With my hands on the steering wheel I looked over at him. He had a navy blue dufflel bag and his backpack.

"Where should we go?" I asked him as I turned around.

"I have no idea, Thank you for getting me," He said with his smile and I felt butterflies in my stomach.

"My dad and brother are home today so I don't think my house is the best Idea,"

"Probably not, my parents told me since I turn eighteen in a week I'll be able to manage."

"What the f*ck is wrong with them?" I knew he is about to turn 18 and maybe he will get an apartment but until then what were we going to do?

"You could camp in my car?" I asked. I had a CRV so I could put the back seats down so it will connect with the trunk. There was no way in hell my dad would be pleased if I had a boy in the house.

"Thank you," He said with another smile.

"We should probably get some stuff though," I explained.

***

I drove to Target and parked near the back. When Nathan got out of the car he took my hand and our fingers intertwined. Nathan had to push the cart so it didn't last too long.

We went over to the bedding section and picked out a bunch of blankets and pillows.

"This one has got to be in the middle," I said as I picked up a bright neon yellow pillow.

"Oh yeah, totally," he laughed as he put it in the cart. He found a pillow with his actual favorite shade of yellow but he still kept the neon one. We got a couple snacks for him and went to check out.

We walked back out to the car, and started setting up his "camp." I put the seats down in my CRV and laid down a black sheet.

"That's perfect," I said with a smile. He gently hit the pillow on my head. I layed down his comforter then a fleece blanket. He started placing the pillows and put the neon one in the middle.

"Wow look at that, so aesthetic," I said sarcastically. Nathan took my hands and they intertwined. He looked me in my eyes, I am 5'4 and he is around 6'1. The wind was blowing my loose hair in my face. "You look so pretty," he said in a gentle charismatic voice. I blushed and the butterflies in my stomach felt like they were going to explode.

Nathan sat in the trunk of my car and I sat next to him. I turned to face him, grabbed his face and kissed him. He put his hands on my waist and leaned against the back of the driver's seat.
