I was on the way back from school when my car started stuttering. My dad told me that when that happens to pull over. When I got over to the side of the road I called him. We really hadn't talked since the incident.
He works about an hour away, I hoped that he would be home but I knew he wouldn't be.
The phone rang but he did not pick up. As I Figured
I couldn't call Lilith, even though I wanted to.
"I need to call roadside," I said out loud to myself. I didn't want to be alone.
I called the number for roadside then I made a rash decision and called Nathan. He picked up on the second ring.
"Hello?" I heard his soft voice say.
"Hey, I am stuck on the side of the road," I told him
"Where are you, I'll come find you," he said.
"The beginning of exit 50,"
About 10 minutes later I saw his car pull up. Luckily exit 50 wasn't a highway, there was a college right next to me. I got out of my car and sat on the curb.
"Hey," he said as he went to sit next to me.
"Hi," I said.
He smiled, "You can't drive huh?"
I elbowed him.
"My car is 8 years old, but it's probably me," I said with a smirk.
"Totally," he said with that smile.
I saw the roadside assistance come up, I might have called him for nothing but it was worth it to me, he actually cares about me. Very few people do.
"I'll see you after my shift," he said as he got into his car.
"See you then,"
**
It was around 5 o'clock when I got back on the road, Nathan's shift ends at 7:30 so I better hurry up.
I pulled into my driveway and I saw Lilith. Out of all things I was not in the mood to talk to her.
I pulled a u-turn and left my driveway not wanting to hear her sad excuse for acting like a total b*tch.
As I left I saw her flip me off as she stood at the back. It just proves that she isn't really sorry, Bliss probably put her up to this.
Speaking of the devil, I got a message from Bliss, we have not talked at all. Just like middle school she always takes Lilith's side. Instead of looking at the message I turned off my phone.
I just started driving, and my mind took me to the school parking lot. There is a small old picnic table right in front of my usual parking spot. It looks like it may have been a senior gift. The white paint was peeling and it was leaning to the right.
I got out of my car and took out my backpack. I sat on the table and took out my homework. Contemplating everything about my friendship with Lilith. I love her, but something about her the past couple of weeks is rubbing off weird.
I took my computer out of my bag and started writing my essay. We have to write about human interests. There was a list of topics we could choose from but I automatically picked the relationships within friends. I see both sides of friendships now, the good and the bad.
**
I wrote for about an hour and a half and my essay ended up being way longer than the teacher wanted it, but I couldn't get rid of any of it. I looked at the time.
"Sh*t" I said out loud.
I was going to be late, really late to seeing Nathan, I guess I was hyper focused. I jumped into my car and drove straight off to the mall.
**
Luckily from school the mall is only 15 minutes away, thank goodness. I only ended up being 5 minutes late. I walked up to the pretzel shop to see Nathan and balloons.
