“Mom?” I asked as I saw her face. I have not seen my mom since my 8th grade graduation, when she told me she was moving but she didn’t tell me where…

“Hi sweetie,” she said as she was chewing her gum.

She walked over to me and tried to give me a hug but I dodged it. “I am so sorry for the way I ended things, I was going to rehab,” she said.

There was the answer to the question left  unanswered for 4 years.

“I am completely sober now I promise. I found an apartment so I can be close to you and your brother,” she said with a smile.

I left my face with no expression, “You were in rehab for 4 years?” I asked in monotone.

“No, I was there for 2 then moved into an apartment to start my life again,” she replied.

“But, you never thought to text or-or call us?” I asked with the emotion in my voice rising.

She didn’t respond at first but just gave me a pity-full look.

“Destiny I’m-” she started but I just walked right past her to my room.

When I got into my room, I just flopped down face first on my bed. So much had happened, a little bit too much. I got asked out by Nathan, then almost kissed him 3 times, my bestfriend showed up like she just came out of ‘Mean Girls’ then my mom came home. I fell asleep, without getting changed. I guess everything just got to me.

I woke up and rubbed my eyes, and looked at the time. Nine-thirty, damn it. I was really late for school. I got changed and went downstairs to grab a ‘Pop-Tart.’ I saw my mom and I didn’t say anything to her.

“Hey sweetie, I let you sleep in,”

“Thanks,” I said grumpily.

I grabbed my “pop-tart” {my dad buys the off brand ones) and went out to the car.

I turned into my parking space to see Nathan, and Jeremy arguing. I was 2 hours late. Why are they out here?

“I saw you leave you f^cking creep,” Nathan said firmly.

I saw Lilith walk out from the school.

“I am not dealing with this.” Nathan said as he ran over to my car. I unlocked it then locked it when he got in.

“Drive,” he said slightly out of breath.

I fumbled but I drove away and saw Jeremy and Lilith kiss in the rearview mirror.

“Don’t go today, they are both acting weird.”

“Where should we go?” I asked him.

“You pick,” He said as I turned out of the school.

“My house? He can’t go on my property.” I said in a matter of fact tone.

“Yeah, lets go,” He said. Nathan is always gentle but he seemed pissed, like really pissed. I know it’s about Jeremy.

Nathan’s quick POV

That creep. I never liked Jeremy, now he is really trying to mess with Destiny's mind. I am not going to let that happen. I felt like it was the best thing not to have her go there today.

Destiny’s Pov

When we got to my house I opened the door and saw my mom on the couch watching TV.

“Hey,” she said in monotone.

I walked up to my room, and sat in my chair.

“I don’t know what they want from me,” I confessed to Nathan.

“They are the ones who f^cked me over,” I continued.

Nathan looked at me and held my hand “I  know,” he said.

I already told him what happened with both of them, how Jeremy cheated on me and how Lilith had just cut me off.

I went over and layed on my bed, “It just doesn’t make any sense to me, that was my mom sitting in the living room,” I confessed.

“Wait? Really?” he asked.

“Yeah,”

He went and laid down next to me, and I told him what happened.

I don’t even remember falling asleep, but I did. I woke up to Nathan saying,

“Sh^t.”

“What happened?” I asked.

“I am going to be late for work, It’s 4:00,”

“What?” I asked. 

“I’ll drive you,”

When we got to the mall I sat at the food court and did some homework. I put on Sabrina Carpenter. I opened up my book and did my math for about an hour.

That’s all the homework I had left since I didn’t go to school.

I opened up my reading book and just read until Nathan was done with work.

Out of the blue I heard, “Hey,”

I jumped a little.

“Ready for our date?” Nathan asked.
