"U free?"

A text message lit Leonor's phone screen while she and Riza were having a chat inside her office.

"And then? What happened after?" Riza enthusiastically asked getting hooked by the tea.

Leonor placed her phone on the table before answering, "Wala, after naming lumabas, umuwi na ako kaagad".

"Usap tayo? Please?", her phone buzzed again.

"Umuwi ka kaagad?" Riza crossed her arms, "Wala bang kiss? Hug? Boring naman"

"Sira! Ba't may ganon?"

"Nasa garden ako", Leonor's phone chimed for the third time. Catching both of their attentions.

"Sino ba yan? Replyan mo nga!"

"Si George", Romero stood up and did few stretches before wearing her white coat, "Gusto daw makipag usap"

"Tungkol saan?" Riza sat up, guilt rushed to her face. It was her who told George.

"Ewan, seryoso ata"

George was sitting on a bench, legs crossed. Casually sipping his coffee, while enjoying the garden's calming ambiance. The warm wind brushed against his skin the same as the anxiety that crept within his body.

"She will come", he muttered to his self after lifting his wrist to check the time. He's been sitting there for an hour already.

Another batch of minutes has passed and the person he was waiting for was nowhere within his sight.

"Sorry!" Leni jogged toward him, "Nag uusap kasi kami ni Riza".

He looked at her for a moment, then without a word. He pulled her into a hug.

"George?", her voice was miffed on his chest.

His arms tightened slightly. "I got worried".

She slowly looked up. "Bakit?"

George finally let go and gently held her shoulders. "Bakit hindi mo sinabi?"

"Ang?"

"What Michael did"

Leni took a step back. "I didn't think it mattered".

George stared at her in disbelief. "It does". His voice wasn't loud, just full of worry as if the problems of the world was his. "If something happens to you", he swallowed. "It matters"

"You, your safety. Everything, Leonor"

Seeing his face, Leni stepped forward again. Cupping his face with both of her hands. "Tignan mo nga ako".

He looked down.

"I'm okay", she smiled. "I'm here"

The lawyer stared at her for a moment. Feeling the warmth of her hand against his cheeks.
Amidst the seriousness, George chortled. "Para kang nanay"

"Sira", Leni playfully shoved his face and stepped back.

But before she can fully do. George caught her by her waist and pulled her closer again.

"Nanay ng magiging anak natin"

She looked him in the eye. Then a smack landed on his chest.

"Tumigil ka nga"
"Bakit?"
"Hirap na manganak sa edad ko"

George pouted dramatically and pretended to think.

"38 ka pa lang"
"And?"
"Prime"

Another smack earned him, "Loko ka talaga Ferrero"

Across the garden. A woman lowered the news paper she had been pretending to read. Her eyes never left the two of them. She pressed a finger against the tiny earpiece hidden beneath her ear.

"Kasama nya si Attorney Ferrero"

A static followed.
