"Pwede bang i admit ang sarili?"
Riza's shoulders sagged as she placed her tray on the table.
"Pa admit ka sa bahay. Uso pahinga, okay?"
Leonor glanced up from arranging the utensils . The afternoon was about to be over yet this was their first meal for that day. Between the hospital chaos, breakfast, lunch, and dinner has merged into one.
Riza let out a long sigh and dropped herself unto the chair with an exaggerated exhaustion.
"Thirty six hours na akong gising", she rubbed her eyes, "Kanina muntik ko nang tawaging "sir" yung MRI machine"
"Sumagot ba?"
Riza shot her a look, "Leni..."
"Joke lang. Sorry"
Leonor flashed a peace sign and also settled in front of Riza. Just as they were about to start eating.
"Tabi tabi tabi tabi"
Rafa arrived.
"Make room. Ang init netong sabaw!"
Without waiting for permission, he placed his food on their table and dramatically blew his fingertips. Both doctors were just staring at their friend. It's Rafa, such scene is normal. A distinguished philanthropist in public, a complete nuisance whenever he's with people he considers as family.
"Good afternoon, beautiful ladies", he greeted with an overly enthusiastic voice after he calmed down.
"Pahinge sabaw", Riza immediately pulled his bowl of soup not bothering if he says yes or not.
"Hoy?"
"Late ka, late fee mo 'to"
Rafa turned to Leonor and shrugged. "Still the same Riza Javier"
Leonor just smiled and shook her head before opening a thick brown folder.
"Okay, bago pa may umiyak dahil naubusan nang sabaw", she pulled a few documents, "Let's polish a few things first, hmm?"
Her eyes darted to the papers full of check lists, procurements, handwritten reminders, and sticky post its regarding their medical mission. Lunch was merely an excuse, they agreed to meet in the hospital cafeteria since it was convenient for the doctors and also near Rafa's foundation office.
Rafa stared at the papers and groaned as if this whole thing wasn't his plan. "Di ba pwedeng kumain muna?"
"I have to visit a patient in an hour", Leni tilted her head toward Riza, "She needs to sleep, tignan mo malapit nang maging zombie"
Riza didn't even bother and just continued eating. Rafa's gaze turned to her and immediately sighed, took his lumpia and gently placed them on Riza's tray.
"Okay", he turned to Leni. "Bilisan natin"
Leonor grabbed the checklists and instantly started the discussion. Check after check, idea after idea.
"Okay na ba tung transpo?", she asked Rafa.
He swallowed a mouthful of rice before responding.
"Dalawa na yung foundation van. Kaso nasa talyer pa yung isa"
"Makukuha ba before weekend?"
"Hmm", he nodded. "Follow up ko after this".
The conversation continued with the logistics, and few arrangements that need to be made.
"Yung ambulance?", Riza asked.
Rafa held unto one of the documents, "We managed to get two, okay na ba yun?"
