"Masakit pa ba kapag nilalakad senator?" Riza queued, eyes fixed on her patient's chart.
The sun was still warm, her mood still in tone, and somehow her very first stop was the patient that she was most annoyed at...for some reason only known to Riza Javier.
"Thankfully no, medyo stiff pa nga lang" ,Win replied while slowly twisting his ankle.
"Hmm", she nodded. "That's normal"
He patiently watched her scribble something on the chart. A moment later, she sighed in relief.
"Well good news" Riza smiled, "You're cleared for discharge".
The senator also sighed in relief, "Tapos na pagiging pasyente", he stretched.
"But" , he stopped mid stretch after hearing the doctor speak. His smile disappeared Ayan na. He uttered at the back of his mind.
"No strenous activities" Riza continued.
"Okay" he nodded.
"No sports"
"Okay"
"No..." she paused then continued, slightly annoyed " whatever that was"
"Playing with dogs?" Win chuckled
"Yes that" she pointed, "no running"
Win's ears perked up. How about his weekly running routine?
"Doc naman..."
"Not negotiable senator" she immediately cut him.
"But-"
"Not negotiable, I said"
"Yes ma'am" he leaned back in defeat.
"No unnecessary walking"
Win raised an eyebrow "Anong klaseng walking ang unnecessary?"
Riza paused for a moment. Right, ano nga ba? ."Just don't do anything stupid"
"Paano ko malalaman na unnecessary?"
Riza closed her eyes and pressed her temple. Be professional. Be professional. She repeatedly reminded herself. She sighed. Opened her eyes, and sarcastically smiled. "Senator, you'll figure it out"
"Ouch", Win held his chest. "Ang sakit naman".
"Ouch talaga kapag natapilok ka uli dahil matigas ulo mo" Riza said through gritted teeth.
Win noticed, and grinned. He successfully got into her nerves...again. It seemed like annoying her has become his favorite hobby.
"Doc," he started, trying and failing to hide his amusement, "Have I been a difficult patient?"
Riza stared, a small grin slightly tugging her lip.
"Do you want an honest answer?"
"Yes"
She tucked the chart in her arm and took a deep breath.
"Honestly, you're surprisingly easy to handle"
"Oh?"
"Usually VIPs are nightmares"
Win felt proud...for a moment. Then she continued with a sarcastic face.
"You've only complained sixteen times"
"Sixteen? Wait you counted?" his chinito eyes widened.
"It's part of the job."
"Na mag count nang complaints?"
"To record everything." she said calmly.
"That's...Keen?"
Win was astonished. She's really something .
"So" Riza clapped her hands together, "I guess we're done here, you're discharged senator. Please be careful next time."
She was about to open the door when,
"Doc Javier!" Win called softly.
She turned around. Hands inside her white coat's pockets.
"Thank you"
Riza didn't reply. Instead, she offered him a smile, not the sarcastic smile that she's been flashing since she entered. A genuine one this time. For her, it was a relief, the case is over. Her patient recovered. But for Senator Win, it left him strangely unsettled and a fast heartbeat.
