It was quite late when she arrived in her unit, she simply tapped her key card and automatically, the door unlocked giving her the free access to get in.
She removed her heels, and changed into comfy house slippers after walking towards the couch and dropping everything that she carried. The lights were dimmed and silence were swarming within her home, but the moment she turnned on the lights..."SURPIIISSEE!"
A unison of voices greeted her and several party poppers popped within her vicinity. They began singing a birthday song to her with full enthusiasm and wide smiles. She was taken aback, but after processing everything, she too pasted a smile on her lips.
George was holding her birthday cake and was slowly approaching her. She looked at him, his white loong sleeves were folded up to his elbow, while tucked in his black slacks paired by his black formal shoes. A true attractive man indeed. Her highschool circle were beside George, also singing happy birthday to her, they were all wearing a party hat, despite their mature ages.
"Happy birthday mi amor", George uttered in such sweet voice while holding the cake near his chest.
"Di pa nga sinasagot my love na agad ang tawag!" Rafael, one of her close friends butted in making everyone tease and squeal
"Eh eto naman kasing friend natin, masyadong hard to get, sagutin mo na kasi!" Riza joined after slightly pinching her best friend.
"Matamis na oo nalang pala ang kulang!" Roger also added and started to chant.
"Sagotin mo na, Sagotin mo na, Sagotin mo na!"
Everyone joined in, the whole unit was filled with smiles and their chant. Both Leonor and George stood there, chortling and shaking their heads while watching their friends.
"Ano ba yan, di ba pwedeng mag blow the candle muna?" Leonor spoke amidst her friends' silly chanting.
"Okay sige blow your candle" Rafael grinned while his eyebrows danced, "Baka later ibang candle na ang i b-blow mo"
Rafael earned a subtle slap, "Sira ka talaga kahit kailan."
She blew her candle and everyone cheered. After all, life wasn't that unfair to her. She still managed to find good friends that became her family over the years. They were there, from her greys up to her whites.

"Okay ka pa ba?" Leonor asked George after handing him her shot for the nth time.
"Yeah, just give me if bibigyan ka pa", George replied after downing another shot. They were taking shots while Roger completely housed the karaoke, Riza was busy taking care of the left overs, while the rest took comfort in the living room. A typical barkada-get together moments.
"Here sayo na", Rafa handed her another shot glass.
"Bakit saakin na naman? Ang bilis nang ikot mo rafa" Leonor complained
"Anong ang bilis?" Rafa countered in his tipsy state, "First kay Roger, tapos kay Riza eh ayaw uminom busy kakahugas ng plato, tapos kay George, oh sayo na agad""Join Riza in the kitchen" George moved closer to her and whispered, "I'll take all of your shots"
That was her queue to escape Rafa's nagging.

"San ba 'to ilalagay?" Leonor lifted the box of cake.
"Sa Ref, ikaw nang bahala mag tetris nyan", Riza replied, still washing the dishes.Leonor just followed what her friend said. She opened the refrigerator and saw stacks of leftovers.
"Wala nang space", she uttered in defeat and closed the door."So tell me", Riza went closer, leaned on the counter and crossed her arms. "How did it went?"
Leonor smiled, knowing what Riza meant.
"Well, just like any other dates"Riza opened the cake box, grabbed a fork and handed one to her friend.
"Anong just like any other dates? I need details Leonor""Same lang, kain, small talk ganun"
"Hay nako ang hirap mo talagang kausap"
"Pero ano s'ya ha"
Riza's face lit up, "Ano??"
"He's sweet"
"Sweet in what context?! In actions or in kiss?!" Riza replied in such loud and sharp voice making the boys in the living room look at them both. Fortunately, the karaoke was playing in the backround.
"Sweet in actions ano kaba, kiss ka jan"
