Riza plopped to her couch the moment she entered her office. Finally, peace after literally spending the whole night in the OR and dealing with whatever that was in the nurses' station. Her shoulders shagged, the exhaustion caught up with her.
Then her eyes landed on the paper bag she was still holding. She stared at it for a moment, then hunger made her open it.
A neatly wrapped sandwich and a note.
Hope you're eating properly too. I didn't run this week btw.

A small smile tugged the corner of her lip upon reading. "Ano to compliance report?", she muttered to herself.
Much to her surprise the sandwich was exactly her usual subway order.
Roasted chicken breast. Whole wheat bread. Extra vegetables. Nothing fancy, just a chicken sandwich.
It made her froze for a moment, looking at the food she was holding. How?
The peace lasted exactly at that moment. When Leonor entered her office with a freshly brewed coffee in her hand.
"Kala ko di mo kakainin eh", she started and placed the coffee on the table , "Panulak mo jan sa special sandwich mo"
"Natulog ka ba?", Riza asked before taking a bite.
Leonor just tirelessly plopped on the sofa too and massaged her forehead.
"Hindi, I was reviewing my upcoming cases the whole night"
The person in front of her did not answer. Instead she just took a bite, one after another. Apparently, she was hungrier than she thought. Leonor just quietly watched, it was understandable that her friend did not have anything to fill her stomach the whole night.
"Tulog ka muna pagka tapos nyan" She uttered in concern.
"Hmm" Riza replied and wiped an excess sauce on the corner of her mouth with her thumb.
"Ang weird", she continued.
"Yung sandwich?"
"No", Riza lowered her sandwich and looked at her friend. "This is my usual order"
Leonor slowly sat up. Crossed her legs like a principal. "Like...exact usual?"
"Yeah"
Slowly, Leonor leaned back, arms crossed too.
"Don't" Riza pointed the sandwich at her in a threatening way.
"Wala pa nga akong sinasabi ang OA naman"
"You're thinking it"
"Coincidence?" Leni dropped.
Riza took another bite then shrugged. "Maybe? I mean is there another reason?"
Leonor simply nodded. The look on her face wasn't an agreement. It was the look of someone choosing not to challenge a questionable conclusion because watching it unfold would be far more entertaining. Plus, they're both exhausted, barely having energy to launch into a full teasing mode.
Not long after Leonor stood up and stretched.
"San ka punta?" Riza asked looking up.
"Office. Matutulog na, parang mahuhulog na mga mata ko"
Before she could fully exit Riza's office, she stopped and turned around, hands still on the door knob.
"You know"
Riza's eyebrows perked up.
"Mas bagay kang ngumiti kaysa nakasimangot"
Riza smiled at her. A sarcastic smile, mouth half full mid chew. Then...
"Labas"
When her best friend left her office practically gree quite once more. For a while, the faint hum of the air conditioner Remained. Riza finished half of her sandwich before her gaze drifted back to the note. She stared at it and shook her head. Yet despite that, she picked it up and pinned it to her cork board.
