TW: Swearing, homophobia
CW: Fluff <3
-Tubbo POV-
I'm going to the library today. It's always been one of my favorite places when I lived with my parents it was my only way to escape. My parents are homophobic and never accepted me. I moved out of my house at sixteen because I knew they would've just kicked me out at eighteen also they literally beat me when they found out.
I've met plenty of homophobic people in my life but what hurts the most is that the people who hated me for me were also the people that were supposed to love unconditionally. I guess that didn't quite work out for them.
I decide to walk to the library today since it's nice and sunny out. I smile and get dressed in a simple, casual outfit consisting of jeans and a sweater. I pull a comb through my unruly hair but give up after a bit because no one I know about is going to see me.
I head out my door grabbing my house keys as I walk past them. The elevators are back to normal but I've actually started to enjoy walking up and down the flights of stairs. It makes me feel alive.
I eventually arrive at the library slightly out of breath. The librarian knows me since I worked here for my first job. I give her a wave as I pass her station and she smiles in return. Barely anybody seems to be here this nice morning, I might stay and read for a while if it doesn't get too busy.
I immediately head over to the fantasy-romance section and scan the shelves in excitement. I know it's cheesy but I love the smell of old books and new books and all books. This library holds a special place in my heart. It was the first place that I fell in love. The first place I figured out I was an overly sappy romantic. It was the place where I saw my first my crush who never found out I existed, I started to hate him when he treated the librarian with disrespect.
Shaking myself out of my thoughts I loom back at the shelves and smile seeing one that looks interesting. One problem though I'm way too short to reach it. I try anyway and find out I'm at least a few inches short. I keep trying, however.
I stand on my tippy toes and my fingers manage to brush it but not enough to knock it down. I grimace and give up.
Then I felt a hand on my left hip and see a big hand from behind me reach out and grasp the book by its binding.
"Hey, I was-" I turn around to see Ranboo behind me.
He smiles softly and hands me the book. He looks nice today in a light button-up and black jeans.
"Your welcome Tubbo" he mutters quietly and hands me the book blushing lightly.
I look at him curiously I wonder why he's blushing. I can't be the reason can I? No, nope there's no way at all.
"It's a good one." He says looking into my eyes.
"Huh?" I ask, confused I tilt my head.
He taps the cover of the book I'm now holding.
"The book." He says "it's a good one."
Oh of course he was talking about the book. I blush as well and look down at the cover of the book. I see a dragon wrapped around a large black turret.
"Thank you!" I say and smile.
He smiles and starts to retreat heading to the back of the library.
"Wait, no!" I say
He turns towards me and levels he gave to me tilting his head. I blush again the heat difference is really quite embarrassing.
"Do you want to hang out?" I ask looking at the ground.
The truth is ever since Wilbur got a boyfriend and Tommy being Tommy I've been lonely and I could use some company.
"Actually," I say looking up embarrassed "it's okay you can go back to whatever you were doing."
I shrug and turn around but his soft voice stops me.
"No, I would love to."
"Great!" I say my smile widening.
I grab his wrist and drag him to my favorite corner of the library. I'm the only one who comes back here. It's quiet and sunny which means there are a lot of viney plants in pots that used to take care of and still do on occasion.
I drop his wrist and he winces. I wonder if I hurt him. I furrow my brow in confusion and he seems to notice pulling his long sleeve down his arm further.
"It's nothing." He says "just an old injury."
I nod not quite believing him and we make small talk for a few minutes. Go I hate small talk. When there's a lull in the conversation I pipe up again.
"So.." I ask "what's your favorite genre?"
His eyes light up and he seems pleased to be asked the question.
"I love romance and fantasy." He asks blushing slightly.
I wonder if he's embarrassed.
"Ohhhh!" I gasp "me too! It's my favorite!"
"Really?" He asks looking up.
I nod excitedly and we start to talk about our favorite books.
