Ryker watched as the edge came closer and closer. Finally though, for the first time, the clouds over Markus's home finally edged away. [This implies Xara was the reason the clouds existed.] 661
They discussed a World's Protectorate. It's a good idea, especially in Ryker's opinion. Varrius was sitting next to him as they where on an aircraft designed by him. The technology his home has is useful. They can get back and forth to places quickly. [Didn't they fight?] 662
The 2nd location that they have most likely will be in this area. Near Markus's home, although they where thinking of a proper name. With what they could muster, and the help of Cassian's world and his, they managed to prepare an entire military to fight off an oncoming wave of Lurkers.
Thankfully, that's all they have to focus on. Hundreds of thousands of people where lined up just along one small section. Millions of people have been recruited for this defense. [Hang on: how do you go from hiding to suddenly being in charge of a military?] 663
This was war on the Lurkers. Just nobody except Military Personnel knew it. [I think everybody would know it.] 664
The lines aimed their guns at the forest. The Lurkers where coming, Ryker could almost see them from here. [Ah yes, the best military personnel: lines.] 665
"Prepare for the attack," Ryker announced into the radio he had with him.
"On standby, waiting for orders to fire."
Mystics have also decided to have him in favor of being their leader, and leader of this operation. [This is beginning to imply a longer time skip then originally assumed. Also: let's have a 17-year-old be the leader of our people. He totally knows what he's doing.] 666
"Fire."
The lines down below began spewing out arrows and blue shots right into the forest. Multiple explosions erupted as helicopters and bombers began wrecking the forest and the Lurkers. This could be the last stand, or a major turning point in history. [How is this a last stand when you clearly have the upper hand?] 667
Ryker watched the troops below as they began barking orders to one another telling them where to fire and where to strike.
A few pulled out swords and went into the hordes, cutting off heads and limbs. Making sure to stab the head and end the Lurkers. Some where consumed whole by the Lurkers. [Lurker vore.] 677
Others where definitely showing off.
"Light it up."
A line of explosions erupted along the entire edge of the forest, sending Lurkers flying in all directions. The soldiers down below waited to fire, then continued when the noise of more Lurkers sounded out. [Wouldn't that kill the people fighting the Lurkers with swords?] 678
Groups, many of them, where also fighting alongside the troops from Ryker's home.
"Land, now." Ryker demanded the Pilot. The Pilot reluctantly accepted and landed onto the ground. Ryker rushed out and slammed his sword into the ground, causing stone and ice to splinter up out of the ground and kill multiple Lurkers. [Why would the pilot be reluctant?] 679
"Advance forward. We can't wait for them to come to us!" Ryker shouted at the troops still behind him. They entered Markus's home, scouting and remaining aware. Shooting anybody that was possibly able to become a Lurker.
Their goal was to first stop Lurkers from entering other zones, the other goal was to ensure no more new ones could come out of the area.
"Where do we head to next, Markus?" Ryker asked.
"Hm...perhaps West...continue West of here. That way we can clear off this section of the Eastern Coast." Marksu responded. ["Marksu"] 680
"Very well," Ryker responded.
Another horde of Lurkers emerged from the trees and all around them, troops began immediately climbing trees but where dragged down. [Yes, instead of firing at the Lurkers, we'll climb up trees.] 681
"Retreat!" Ryker ordered, protecting Markus and Cassian. Who where also assisting him, a Lurker that was running...odd, came at Ryker. Ryker stabbed it in the chest and snapped it's neck on the floor. Proceeding to lift up his staff and stab it in the head.
"Continue back, kill whatever you can!"
Markus was firing multiple shots into the forest, hoping to hit something. Cassian was ready to fire in case he needed to.
They managed to survive and exited the forest. The remaining reserve he had ordered to stay behind was now waiting.
He waved his hand for the pilot, they all clambered onto the ship. "Take us to the World's Protectorate Headquarters. Now."
The pilot nodded, and they flew off. Watching the grass and forest speed by them. Off in the distance, a fire blazed up in the sky. The flames now a speck, until he could no longer see the black smoke erupting from the flames.
They landed at the HQ, located around 2 million miles away, which is why the ships have been given speed enhancements to cover long distances quickly. [2 million miles. Consider this: the moon is 238,900 miles away from us. That is 8.37 trips from Earth to the moon. It cannot be 2 million miles away.] 682
The HQ was still under construction, but they could still use it for plans. They opened the glass door leading inside.
They went to the meeting room. It was empty, Ryker pulled up a map.
"So, since we decided to come here...as apparently a shared thought. What shall we do from here?" Markus asked Ryker.
"We'll plan a new strategy. A way to...perhaps destroy the Lurkers?" Ryker suggested.
"I agree," Markus responded.
"What could we do?" Cassian inquired.
"We can do more bombing runs, more explosive weapons. Larger military force, you pick." [Missing the comma between "more explosive weapons" and "larger military force".] 683
"More explosives and bombing runs may work. I want to obliterate the Lurkers for good. Even if that means the end of me and my group." [Suicidal Markus?] 684
"The Lurkers population has grown since we've last encountered them, keep that in mind." Ryker responded.
"How about we just...artillery strike them multiple times?" Cassian suggested.
"That'll work," Ryker decided, "send artillery to a good range and just wreck havoc to the Lurker hordes."
Just then, a messenger runs inside. Panting, "Ryker, I have a message from your home."
"What is it?" Ryker asked.
"Lurkers have overrun them, and they're incapable of taking them all down and request help."
Ryker laughed, "They can handle themselves. I know they can, they're strong. More capable..."
"Sir, I'm serious." the messenger repeated.
"I'm sorry, but, it doesn't seem possible. Like, at all."
"I know it doesn't, but, trust me. It is. They're being pushes back. They need help!" ["They're being pushes back."] 685
The main door burst down, a few soldiers run inside, firing at somebody or something outside. The door closed behind them.
"What's out there?" Ryker inquired.
"I'm afraid it's what the messenger came here for." One of the Soldiers responded.
"What would that be?"
"The Lurkers...are here." [Not dramatic.] 686
[As a conclusion: adding 30 sins for all the cringey dialogue from here to the end of the book.] 706
