EDUCATION or MATERIAL THINGS?

There are moments where I am questioning my decisions in life including how I spend my money.

Sometimes I'm confused about my decision to spend my money on education or knowledge and experiences rather than spending it on material things just like how others spend it with material goods.

I could probably have my own car, i phones, expensive abayas or I could eat the most expensive dish existing in my community if I only imprinted in my mind in the beginning that I should earn money so I could live a luxurious lifestyle.

Everyone is so obsessed with it. Even a simple "kamustahan" conversation turns into a "material obsession" convo. Everyone is so obsessed to look rich and show to the people how wealthy they are. But not everyone thinks about how they can influence the people to establish the good manners and build-up the noble character.

"Am I still doing right?", I asked myself.

But after questioning myself, I started reminiscing the time I learned a lot of things from the lectures of my university professors and Islamic Teachers. I remember those moments I spend money with the people who values me. Those laughters and smiles I received from these poor people give me a lot of happiness and excitement.

Remember that the excitement we usually get from purchasing things tend to diminish quickly as we get used to them and start taking them for granted.

But the education or knowledge and experience the excitement can always give us a strong feeling of satisfaction.

And I realized,

I might not have these wordly obsessions, but I have those beneficial knowledge and memorable experiences which I can passed on to the next generation. Just like how we remembered our forefathers about their great contributions and how these contributions benefited us, let us try to be remembered by the next generation as proud ancestors.

Remember, material things is separable to you while knowledge and experience becomes a part of who you are as a person.
