Happy at least
“Good morning, children!” Bungad ko sa mga bata.
“Good morning, teacher!” sagot naman ng mga ito.
“Could your still remember our lesson yesterday?” malawak ang ngiting tanong ko sa kanila.
One of my student raised her hand as she stood up from her seat. “Our lesson yesterday was about the woman who lose herself after losing her family,” anito.
She’s one of the smartest students in our school. She’s very confident and she participates. She got nice grades because of it.
“What have you learned from our lesson, Kaori?” I asked as I smiled.
“I have learned that nothing is more important than loving yourself. We must always obey our parents, do what they say and never be scared of speaking out if you know what’s right. Always remind ourselves for our goal so we will have focus. And above all, we must always pray to God,” aniya.
For an eight years old, she’s already fluent in speaking English. She already know how to construct a sentence. And as her adviser, I am proud of having her as my student. However, even if some other students were not as intelligent as her, I am still proud of them. Somehow, they’re trying they’re hardest to succeed and to avoid failing. I am very exultant of their improvement and progress. I can really see how inclined they are and that’s what matters.
For two years of teaching in La Seriah Elementary School, I have erudite the contrast behaviors, manners and brainpower of every children. But LSES is a school that provides quality education that gives opportunities to each students with different skills. Some may have a good reading comprehension but some have great skills in dancing. All students may have dissimilarities but the school unites them.
As a teacher, I was able to discerned that it is a must for us to be fair with every learner. Every student has it’s own capability, potential and adeptness; reason why we must look not just at the intellectual ability but to the credentials of each.
“Very good, Kaori,” wika ko.
As the class ended, I went to the canteen to buy foods to eat.
Mahina akong natawa saka napailing. “Ikaw, ha? Marunong ka na sa mga ganyang bagay. You’re still young, you shouldn’t think about such things.”
Humagikhik siya sabay takip sa bibig niya. “I’m just kidding, teacher. Turon po gusto ko. Five turons,” aniya. “How much po?”
“Twenty-five pesos,” wika ko.
Nilagay ko sa cellophane ang limang turon saka binigay sa kanya. Agad naman niyang tinanggap saka binigay sa akin ang bayad niya.
“Thank you po, teacher. Goodbye,” aniya.
I smiled and nodded. “Take care. Good bye.”
It’s been two years since I passed the board exam. I could still bethink how I cried hard in front of my baby’s tombstone together with my parents behind me. It was the day that I feel prosperous and I was feeling so glorious.
