The construction work finished quickly with so many powerful cultivators on the peak.
The distance between the central pavilion and the others was one kilometer. They carved out a moat, half a kilometer wide and deep, that completely circled the central pavilion, then filled it with the seawater.
Shenyu's monster beast form was a kilometer long and slightly over a hundred meters thick. It would be a bit tight, but she could lazily swim in circles around the moat if she so desired.
Naturally, they didn't want the central pavilion to appear closed off. They constructed eight arching bridges, each going from the central pavilion to one of the outer pavilions and carved from white jade. The handrails started red on the inside, then faded to the colour of the disciple in the outer pavilion — for example, white for the twins' pavilion, or light blue for Jin Liling's.
All the pavilions had a red trim from the start. They removed the red from the outer pavilions and changed it to match the bridges. They had been planning that change for a while, but never had a good opportunity.
They also planted various flowers on both sides of the moat, matching the colour scheme of the bridges. A few thousand multicoloured fish were transported into the waters and could be seen shimmering below the surface. Everything helped reinforce the "Rainbow" aspect of the Rainbow Mist Peak.
The center part of the peak had formerly looked a bit empty, but the new moat and bridges fixed that issue while also making it much more like an immortal paradise. Everyone was quite happy with the change.
Not long later, Shenyu laid on her back, floating in the water. The moat had a gentle clockwise current thanks to one of Cai Fei's arrays. Shenyu slowly drifted along it.
"I used to be a fearsome Emperor," Shenyu thought as she stared up at the sky. "Now, I'm a lotus petal."
From her peaceful expression, it was hard to judge whether she viewed the change as good or bad.
At some point, Shao Yue appeared, strolling along the edge of the moat, watching Shenyu.
"You don't seem like much of a threat," Shao Yue said. "However, I still can't risk having an unknown Emperor here unbound. Unfortunately, Liezhu is already my contracted monster beast, so I can't take another."
"I know what you're going to ask," Shenyu replied. "You already have my life in your hands. It makes no difference to me. Go ahead."
Shenyu closed her eyes. A crystalline flood dragon flew out of her forehead and hovered near Shao Yue, a deep blue colour.
Shao Yue raised her eyebrows, both at the ease of it all and how the Dao Soul resembled Shenyu's monster form. After thinking about it, she realized it made sense. She simply hadn't seen a monster beast's Dao Soul before.
Shao Yue raised a finger and touched the soul, branding it with her divine sense. With a thought, she would be able to detonate it, instantly killing Shenyu.
Shenyu's soul returned to her body. She opened her eyes and resumed her cloud-watching as if nothing had happened.
Shao Yue waved a hand, removing the seal on Shenyu's cultivation.
Shenyu's eyes widened as her cultivation base began rotating. "The world energy here is so thick!"
"There's a reason why I chose to live here."
Shenyu glanced over at Shao Yue, her eyes flickering with the light of augury. "You've lived a long time for someone so young."
"I'm sure my age can't compare to yours."
