Cai Fei and Shao Yue strolled through a city in a desert world. They both wore black cloaks to help with the heat.
"Amitabha," someone called out to them. "Would you two ladies care for a carving? They're guaranteed to bring you and your family peace of mind!"
Shao Yue glanced over and saw a bald monk sitting cross-legged behind an array of sandstone carvings. She stepped over and knelt down, picking up one of them. It was a pudgy lion with a goofy smile. The craftsmanship was rather good, but it didn't have any special effects that she could sense.
"Are you really going to buy something from this fake monk?" Cai Fei asked.
"It's a little cute," Shao Yue replied.
The monk placed his hands together. "Ah, benefactor, you wound me! I've been nothing but pious my entire life."
"Yeah, and I've been nothing but a virtuous maiden," Cai Fei replied dryly.
He made a hand seal with his left hand and pointed his other to the sky. "If I speak falsely, may the heavens send lightning to strike me down."
After saying that, his face paled. The women glanced up, noticing the black clouds gathering above.
Shao Yue's face lit up. "It's happening!"
She put away the carving and left some money in its place, then the two of them flashed and reappeared outside the city. She spat out a tiny sword that quickly expanded into its full size and then took out a vial. She rubbed the contents of the vial onto the sword, a mixture of materials that would increase its chance of overcoming the tribulation.
"It's all up to you," Shao Yue said.
She removed the Spirit from the sword, then tossed the sword into the sky.
The lightning poured down as if the blade was a lightning rod, completely drowning it. The sword hummed and fought back of its own volition. Rays of sword qi shot out in all directions, splitting apart the lightning.
The tribulation rendered the sand below into glass, which then shattered from the sword strikes. Shards of broken glass flew everywhere while a sandstorm kicked up.
Shao Yue and Cai Fei retreated a safe distance while keeping their eyes peeled for anyone trying to fish in troubled waters.
Shao Yue couldn't interfere in the tribulation. It was her sword's alone. If she jumped in, it would increase to match her level, and the sword would certainly not survive.
She waited with equal parts nervousness and anticipation for half a day before the tribulation finally concluded.
Shao Yue and Cai Fei moved back in. The sword fell slowly towards the ground and began giving off a soft white glow. The glow expanded in five directions, turning into a vaguely human shape that gradually refined itself.
"It's a girl," Cai Fei observed.
"I think demons have some control over what their human form is," Shao Yue said. "She might have chosen to become a female to please me."
Cai Fei scoffed. "As if you need more girls in your life."
The light burst apart when the figure's feet touched the ground, revealing her naked form. She looked to have just finished puberty, maybe sixteen to eighteen years old in appearance. She had small breasts, a thin build, and creamy white skin. Her long, straight hair hung to her knees. It covered both her backside and her breasts. On the outside, it was a brilliant silver colour, while the inside was golden, perhaps due to Shao Yue reforging the sword with the Puresoul Gold.
