Chapter 11: Sliver of Sunlight

When Paula and Andrea's mother; Julie arrived at the alien department store, it was surprisingly not that different from an earth store... everything was in English and the baskets came with universal translators. Paula was in so much shock that she couldn't even pull out her phone a record, or even talk..it felt like a strange dream and she actually thought she was still drunk until Julie shoved her. Julie smiled and said "Still in shock that I outdrank you last night? and Paula said, "No maybe it's the fact that we're on an alien planet and Earth has been demolished along with everyone we loved".

Julie turned to Paula and said, "I know it's overwhelming but hold it together... we've been through this before and we'll fix it for my Daughter ".Paula smiled and said "I'll try" and Julie smiled and said "How about this; every time you freak out imma make you take a shot"'. Paula's eyes opened wide as she said "No...please no, I spent early morning hugging the toilet". Julie giggled and said, "I know, I heard...so relax and try not to stare it's rude ".Paula sighed and said fine "Mrs. M "and she smiled and said, "Call me Julie". The shopping went smoothly as Paula picked everyone's clothes and Julie went and got the food and commodities. As they got in the car, Julie smiled and said "Let's open this baby up" as she floored it and put on some weird alien Rap music.

The rest of the evening, Paula and Julie cleaned the dusty house before preparing a dinner of plain and simple Hamburgers with French fries. As they sat down to eat, Joanna spoke up and said "How's everyone holding up?" each one of them didn't say anything, but nodded and smiled". As if on cue, Maya and Maldor walked in and broke the silence and said in unison" we're going to attempt to bring Andrea back in the morning...we only have one try so either we bring her back or die in an explosion but the way I see it, we're dead either way without at least one of them alive...but we need you all". Everyone smiled and nodded and Joanna spoke up and said" what do you need?". Maya said," we will link to you guys during the meditation and we will pull your memories of Andrea temporarily to help us re-form her identity since Jays not here".

Julie smiled and said "Anything for my baby" and Paula said" Anything for my best friend" and Joanna added her voice along with Raúl's and they said in unison "Anything for our grandbaby". Maya and Maldor looked at each other and smiled before turning back to the family and saying "Very well, we will commence the ritual at 9 AM tomorrow morning". As everyone lay in their beds that night, an even greater sense of hope hung over the house and its occupants. The next morning was unusual as no one had made breakfast yet everyone was awake. Their focus was not on their own needs but on one thing; seeing Andrea's eyes open and hearing her beautiful but quirky laugh. As Maya finished the last of her meditation, Maldor got everyone into position and explained what was going to happen.

Maldor said "Since we're in a new galaxy with plenty of stars, Maya is going to channel that energy, while I channel the powers of chaos through my body until we reach peak power". Maya said "Then we will carefully mix the energies into one major burst of energy and that's where you come in". Maldor spoke again and said "You guys will be connected to us as we access your memories and focus on reconstructing part of her personality so that she isn't filled with an evil personality...see we must mix carefully and make sure only harmony or diluted chaos is sent into her heart as it should filter out after the transfer". Julie said "what are the dangers?" and Maldor said "the mixing of the chaos and harmony, but I should be able to handle it, I haven't told anyone how I survived when I was captured, but I'll tell you".

Maldor said "Even though the gods outlawed the study of harnessing chaos I continued my studies and became proficient in it but I never used it until after I was captured and infected...I harnessed it and channeled it out of my body and believe it or not I tricked Jay into using it during his battle last year". Maya said" You did what!...you taught my child that? and Maldor said," No I used the anger and chaos in his heart to activate his powers during his training and it was successful and his heart filtered it out perfectly". Maya frowned and said, "Well discuss this later, now let's commence the procedure". Maya and Maldor closed their eyes and focused on the stars but Maya focused on the harmony and Maldor focused on the chaos.

Their energy began to grow and the walls began to shake violently as Maldor's skin cracked as black streaks ran up his skin and he began to groan in pain while Maya began to groan as well. Maya began to levitate along with Maldor as they rose up and fired their energy in a beam at each other but it met in the middle which formed a dark purple sphere of energy that grew with each passing second. After the sphere reached the size of a school bus tire, it fired down at Andrea's body and engulfed it in dark purple energy.

After that small streams of the energy branched off and connected to everyone in the room as the process of creating her life began to drain everyone but no one budged, instead, they kept focusing on her face and her memories. The ground began to rumble more violently and the walls and floors cracked as the house threatened to collapse but still, no one budged; they were determined to bring Andrea's life back or die trying.
