Friday 22nd of July
Today when we got to reception exactly what I thought would happen, happened. A new schedule for me and Stella, to clean the cabins that are getting re-opened. Kaley stood behind the desk smiling at us apologetically.
"It's not that bad of a job really..." She insisted, "You've got me helping you! and I did it last year, but we only opened half of them not thirty of them."
"Thirty!" We both gasped in shock.
"It's not that bad, really we'll end up doing about five cabins in a day?"
I threw my hands up, "But deep cleaning them? They've been closed all year some of them for two years! Why is he doing this right at the end of the season? He's gonna just close them in the Fall anyway?"
"More residents, more tips!" Kaley tried to sound positive.
"Is no one else helping us?" Stella asked.
"Murphy wanted the other girls to remain cleaning the other cabins," Kaley said.
Stella shook her head. "I knew it would be us doing this job, I knew it."
"Come on girls it will be fun!" Kaley smiled.
We'd squeezed in the buggy, got everything we could think we would need from the shed, and drove towards the closed-off cabins. They were close to the staff cabins. Some of them looked terrible, surely he's not going to let residents stay in these. We parked the buggy on the side of the road.
"Hey look it's Caden and Logan!" Stella nudged me. I shot my eyes over to look at them. They came out from one of the cabins, Logan was carrying a big tub of paint and a long paint roller. He waved and gave a slight nod. Caden was behind him carrying a ladder.
"Girls!" Caden smiled. "You've been sent to do the shitty job too I see!"
"I know it's typical." Stella rolled her eyes.
Caden walked toward us and after a brief hesitation, Logan followed.
"Decorating?" Stella asked gesturing to the paint in Logan's hand.
"Painting over the mold was my instruction," Logan answered dryly.
Kaley laughed loudly, "Murphy huh? Are we surprised?"
Logan looked at me briefly. "How come he picked you two out of everyone else?" He questioned sceptical.
"Thanks, Logan, are you saying we're shit?" Stella joked.
He shrugged his shoulders, "Just... wondering that's all." He looked at me again.
He's right, if Logans here working on the cabins too, why has Murphy chosen me to clean them? He's so confusing.
Logan looked up behind us all and up the hill. I turned and saw that Murphy's house was in perfect view of us, or in other words... his house had a perfect view of the cabins we were cleaning.
He wouldn't be that spiteful would he?
"Well, let's not waste time," Kaley said. "Murphy wanted at least six done by today so he can fill them with some vacationers."
We all separated. I went up to the first cabin it was already open. It stank of dampness. Oh, my god. This is terrible. It had the same layout as the staff cabins, the floor creaked and you could see the thick cobwebs weaved throughout the room. Is this a joke? Surely he can't let people stay in here... it must be for a small price anyway, a very small price.
I didn't know where to start, I opened up all the windows and grabbed whatever crap I could find that looked like trash. I then opened up the double doors to the decking. There was the same furniture as the rest of the cabins only these were a bit faulty.
