I smiled. Max... Oh my goodness. MadMax. "Are you by chance MadMax?" She looked a little shocked. "Dustin and Mike talk about a person named MadMax from the arcade."
Those boys became her friends after sometime. "Yeah that is me."
"Nice to finally meet you Max." Well Billy you wanted it this way. For me to entertain your step sister.
We sat in the living room while I went to go get drinks with Steve. "Well I guess things are going better than we thought."
"You know he's putting on a show for his parents right?" I put drinks on the tray. "We all see how he acts in school."
Max walked into the room. "Are you talking about Billy? Because it's all true." She walked into the kitchen more.
I wanted to lie but I couldn't. "Somewhat yeah." We could hear boots walking by so I quickly made up something. "Anyways that's how Steve and I are related." Yup it was Billy. Steve nudge me as meaning good cover.
"What's going on in here?"
"Max wanted to know how Steve and I are cousins and I forgot that we ran out of Pepsi. So I asked her about Cola instead." Lie number two.
Max nods her head. "Yup, thank you so much."
I don't know if Billy believed me or not but it is what it is. Dinner was ready as Pipi was bringing it out. I felt judge with everyone. I felt a memory coming on as Steve kicked my leg. Billy could tell something was going on.
"So Tory tell me about yourself?" Billy blurted out.
Fuck you Billy. "Well. I'm a Junior and that's basically it."
"What about hobbies? I know what Steve's hobbies are."
I say it over and over and over. Fuck you. "I like to read and play the piano when I can." I felt sick to my stomach.
Steve fills in for the both of us. I can fell the stare that Billy was giving me. "Excuse me." I left the table to get fresh air.
Steve later followed me. "Sis, you have to get it together."
"I'm sorry." I mumbled. "Something is triggering me today or even this week. I feel like something is going to happen."
"I told you. He's not here. He's in another state. Your letting him win. Your father, was long gone when he started to hurt you."
"What if he was right.... It is my fault that my mother died? And he became the way that he is?"
"No. None of that is true sis. Try to stop panicking. It will make you sick and cause another seizure." Steve did breathing exercises with me. Truly he is the best.
Billy stands in front of the door way pulling out a smoke. "What are you two doing out here?"
Before Steve said anything. I said. "Trying to see if I wasn't going to barf." Lie number three.
"Hmm. Steve your grandfather wanted you to help with the dishes." Billy lit up his cigarette.
"Thanks." He didn't want to leave me, believe me I didn't want me also.
Taking a last few deep breaths. Billy had said. "You have seizures?"
"I do once in a great while."
"Do you have a inhaler?"
"Are you my doctor?"
Billy chuckles. "No. I just asked." He blow out a puf of smoke. "You looked shaken when I walked into the house."
"I wouldn't worry about it Billy."
He changes the subject so quickly. "So your name is Tory eh?" Sucking in the cigarette smoke. "Why didn't you tell me your name?"
"Why do you care Billy? I'm sure Tommy and his wonderful awesome friends told you all the stories that you needed to know. So fatty, or whore whatever it is. That's what they call me. Any more questions? Because I'd like to go in."
Billy shook his head as he let me go in. By night time they left Billy wouldn't stop looking at me like I was his next toy to fuck. I felt gross.
"Well that was wonderful my kids. But I'm going off to bed. I'll see you two in three weeks." Well that isn't what he said the first time. Steve and I rooked our eyes after he left. We clean up.
"What did the oh so wonderful Billy want?"
"Play 20/20 questions with me I guess. Y'know he acted shocked when he knew my name.. and then said 'oh so your Tory.' what the hell did that mean?" Throwing the rag way that was so dirty not a chance of saving it.
"I don't see what people see in him."
"Me too Steve. Me too."
