I couldn't focus on anything. The cold somewhat went away, thankfully none of the teachers called on me to read or to answer any of their questions. Walking out of class, people's conversations were overly loud I drowned them out by listening to music that Pipi would play on his record player. I closed my eyes. I felt a tap on my shoulder. The music stopped as I opened my eyes, Billy took my bag out of my hands along with his in the other hand. I went with Billy as the crowds became louder. Steve went to work after school, Max came after we got to the car.
Billy plays loud music as we drove away no one had said anything durning the drive and besides I don't want to get Max involved. I got out of the car as I helped Max get out. I just couldn't let him stay with me. I just couldn't. What if they were telling the truth about Billy and him showing them off.
Taking a puff from his cigarette he said. "Still not talking to me?"
"I'm fine Billy." Other than wanting to beat the shit out of you.. they always say innocent until proven guilty. "I'm going home. Pipi should be home so no need to stay with me." I know that he would want to stay with me anyways. But I didn't want him to see the smack down with Pipi. "Besides I don't want you to see Pipi bad side." I can't brin myself to fully push him away from me.
As I began to walk away he somewhat shouted. "Remember that shirt that your wore when we had the dinner?" I nodded. "That's what I only took. If you don't believe me, you can come to my room and I'll show you." It could mean he is telling the truth or it could mean he gave it to one of the friends, for what reasons I don't want to know.
"I.. I believe you." We shall see what happens tomorrow. If they are hanging up somewhere at school or a party that Steve will be attending. Turning back I had chills crawling up my body. Opening the door thinking Pipi would be in the living room. No he wasn't, I searched the whole house for him. He wasn't there. Maybe he wasn't going to be mad at me this time. Or he's driving about to think of way for me to remember to take my meds. Fair is fair.
He enters with groceries as he called out my name from downstairs. Running down the stairs. He didn't look mad or angry. "Steve told me what happened in school today. You doing alright?"
I shrugged. "Alright as I can be. I'm sorry that I disappointed you Pipi."
"No princess you didn't disappoint me. Look lot of shit happened over the month and you can't be perfect all the time my dear. I'm going to let it slide this time. But ONLY this time." He unpacks the food that he bought. "By the way Billy was just here and wanted me to give you this." He hands me a ticket to the game tonight. "It's the last game of the season. I'm sure that Steve would want you there as well. We both understand if you didn't feel like it."
I looked at the ticket. I kinda smiled. "I think I better go. I owe it to Billy for getting the nurse today."
"Atta girl. Go get changed make sure you dress some light but warm."
I run upstairs as I shut the door to my room, a knock from the window. It was dear old Billy. I opened it. "Thank you for the ticket. Are you sure you want to give this to me? Wouldn't your dad want to come?"
"Ha.. him at one of my games? No.. I don't tell him anymore when they are. Susan is the only one that knows because she always ask if I can watch Max." He shuts the window behind him.
"Well thank you."
"So does this mean you're going?" Sounding hopeful.
"Yes Billy it does."
He hands me a bag. "Here."
"What's this?"
"Open it." I take it as I sat on my bed. I opened it. It was the shirt that I wore when he first came over for dinner. "Like I've always said. I'm an asshole, but not that type of asshole."
"Billy you didn't have to prove yourself to me." Well he kinda did.
"No, I think it did Tory. They made me out to be the bad guy that everyone thinks that I am. I swear I don't mean to be." He sat on my bed as well.
"Well it's a good thing that I made you a hero to Pipi. Steve must have also." I hand him the shirt and the bag as well. Getting up from the bed."I don't think that's the right color for you anyways." I head to my closet. I got a sweatshirt the is three sizes to small for me. "Here this will do better than that dressy shirt and Incase if your dad and Susan picked this up. They thought you might had bought it to work out in."
"I guess I should had thought about that huh?"
I shrugged. "It's okay. I just don't want your dad to think that you brought a fat whore home."
"Your not a whore Mayflower. Don't let us people define you. You are more than that." We exchanged my clothing. "If Pipi would be alright with me taking you out afterwards I'd like to take a drive with you of you don't mind?"
"I dunno Billy. Like I said I have a lot of homework."
He sighed. "Then maybe I'll help you after the game."
"You'll be tried."
"With you? Never."
"I meant after the game."
"No I won't. Even if I do, I'll sleep over."
"Have it your way then."
As he went back to the window he winks and then left to go home and get ready for the game. Everyone is going to be there I guess. Ugh I hate big crowds.
