Two unstacked tables sat in the middle of the cafe, a single chair located right under one. One cup of iced coffee placed on top of the table, and one child-like figure, playing around with the muffin he bought three minutes ago.
The cashier sits at the counter, waiting for the boy to finish his late-night snack and leave. His bangs fall in front of his eyes, leaving a mysterious aura around him.
"You gonna eat, or just play with your food?"
The small boy looks over at the taller of the two, a sigh escaping his mouth. He looks away from the cashier and continues to pick at the muffin with his finger.
The cashier stares daggers into the shorter's head, making sure he can feel every ounce of annoyance as he feels. Sure, he was tipped five dollars from the boy, but sometimes you would much rather get a decent night's sleep before going to school the next day.
Not to mention the kid hasn't spoken a word since he asked for his table. To order, he simply pointed at what he wanted on the menu.
"Don'cha got school tomorrow? Middle school starts pretty damn early y'know."
He was able to see the ginger roll his eyes at his remark about school, even though he was halfway across the room.
"I'm in high school. You're in my history class."
While the cashier was slightly shocked that he had never noticed the boy in any of his classes, he was also relieved that he was finally able to strike up a conversation.
"Then you know how important it would be for us to get some decent sleep tonight, we have a test in history tomorrow."
"Sorry," the boy says, nonchalantly, like everything else he's said this entire conversation.
He takes the half-empty coffee and uneaten muffin from the table, waving his hand as a goodbye.
Some people these days.
