The walk to Shouyou's house was about what Tobio had expected.
Shouyou lived on top of a mountain, which meant that the two did have to hike a bit, but it was nothing too exerting.
Tobio was actually surprised at how the trek up the mountain came easily to Shouyou.
"So, you said your mom has been dying to meet me?"
"Pretty much, yeah."
"How come?" Tobio prodded.
"Oh you know, you let me use your phone to call her late at night when I was stuck between a rock and a hard place and now you're my night in shining armor or something- I'm not quite sure," Shouyou rambled in a way that let Tobio knew he was depicting his mother, "anyways, she just wants to meet the, quote, 'nice young man who saved my life' end quote."
Tobio laughed at Shouyou's depiction of his mother. He seemed embarrassed but in a loving a way. In a way that he understood was her caring for and loving him.
"She seems like quite the sunflower," Tobio chuckled.
"You really don't want to know. But I guess your forced to now," Shouyou replied as they approached a flat at the top of the mountain.
Shouyou took a key out from his backpack and put it in the keyhole to the door.
"After you, my night in shining armor," Shouyou joked.
"Oh, I mussn't! You, my prince, must enter first," Tobio played along.
Tobio laughed and Shouyou smiled. They each entered the house, Shouyou going in first, as he called out to his mother.
After a few seconds, a woman made her way from a room across the hall and toward the two boys.
"Oh my goodness! Did you bring Tobio!? Hello, I'm Ms. Hinata, Shouyou's mother," she introduced herself and stuck out her hand as she made her way over.
She was nothing like Shouyou at all.
"Nice to meet you, I'm Tobio Kageyama." Tobio replied as he shook her hand.
"Thank you for looking after Shouyou. He's been having such a rough time lately, it's good to see he has a friend who-"
"Alright mom," Shouyou interrupted, playfully rolling his eyes, "Tobio and I have homework we need to get to, so you'll have to harass him with questions some other time."
Shouyou's mom fakes being offended before speaking again, "Alright you two have fun. Oh, and I know you hate hearing this, Shouyou, but that doors gotta be wide open."
"Ew, you're disgusting mom. Love you."
"I love you too."
Shouyou dragged Tobio to his room which wasn't far from the foyer.
When they finally went inside Shouyou's room m, Tobio was taken aback.
The walls were a neutral shade of grey, with a bluish undertone, but they walls were lines with photographs. Some old, some new, some somewhere in between.
Most of them were of plants, animals, and landscapes. But others were of people. There was a small girl who showed up frequently.
"Who's this?" Tobio asked as he pointed to one of the photos featuring the short girl.
"Her? That's my sister, Natsu. She's still at school right now, but she'll be getting home in an hour or two after my mom picks her up."
"She's cute."
"A devil in disguise," Shouyou mumbled under his breath.
The photos seemed to be in no chronological order, the girl looking to be various different ages in the wrong timeframes as he looked along the wall. There was one of her flashing a small with two of her front teeth missing. It was right above Shouyou's nightstand.
"I take it she supports your photographic journey," Tobio smiled.
"She really doesn't have a choice. Well, now I suppose she does. She probably won't have to deal with me for a while." Shouyou's voice got softer as he spoke.
"Did you really just fall down some stairs?"
"Yes," Shouyou replied immediately.
Whatever, he'd get to the bottom of things when Shouyou was ready to talk.
In the meantime, sure, being all happy-go-lucky wasn't so bad.
And Natsu really was adorable.
"Wanna play cards?"
"What happened to homework?"
"Ahh, we can do that later. I know some great games."
"Alright then, what's the plan?"
"Poker?"
