It was like a routine, and frankly, Kageyama was getting tired of it. He tried to switch things up, like talking to Shouyou during lunch, but he was always a no show. He wanted to expand on their now (possibly?) friendship.
Shouyou did come to one of his volleyball games so shouldn't that make them more than just "people who know each other"? Then again, they don't exactly text or have friendly conversations so who really knows.
The jingle of the bell to the cafe alerted Kageyama of the returning 1am regular. Kageyama had made the executive decision to place a muffin and coffee at one of the tables towards the front of the room not long ago. Considering he knew Shouyou was going to come and he had nothing better to do, he figured "why not?"
Shouyou saw the muffin and coffee at the table and sat down, giving an acknowledging nod to the cashier and he passed by.
A few moment had passed by and Kageyama figured it was a "now or never" moment that he needed to take advantage of.
"So," he began. "Shouyou Hinata.". He saw the boy slightly flinch at the sound of his full name.
"Yeah?". He asked, picking a piece of muffin off of its source and eating it.
"Why didn't you tell me your last name? Are we going to ignore how you decided to skip right over formalities?"
"I gave you the name I felt most comfortable with you using, what's wrong with that?" Kageyama felt himself flush at Shouyou's words
He was at a loss for words. Sure, he didn't know how the smaller of the two would react to him asking about his full name. However, he didn't expect Shouyou to hold such a defensive tone of voice. It was like he never wanted Kageyama to know his full name in the first place.
"Well then. If I am to call you Shouyou, you should call me Tobio, it's only fair."
"Don't base your own decisions off of mine."
"Why not? If I call you by your first name you should be able to do the same for me."
Hinata had paused. He quietly took a sip of his coffee before turning to Kageyama and nodding in agreement, a small smile etching its way onto his face.
——
Hinata had left once more, throwing away a half-eaten muffin, and almost finished coffee.
