Toby sat with Henry and a few other guys at one of the blue painted benches near the school's canteen. Toby looked at his phone, gasping once he saw the time. "Shit!" His friends looked at him, confusion evident on their faces. "I have a meeting with Mr Liebeck, and i'm like five minutes late!" He groaned, zipping up his school bag and walking towards the agriculture department.

Whilst Toby was walking, some girl came out of the bathrooms, running into him. She looked up at him with tears in her eyes, apologising. It was Holly. Clearly her tears were clouding her vision, as she didn't really take note of his identity. He seemed unknown to her. "The fuck's up with her, and why the fuck is she crying?" Toby thought. The question was short lived in his brain, as it was interrupted when he took note of his brother, who was walking past. Toby couldn't help but taunt his older brother. "Fuck up, cunt." He teased, flipping his brother the bird. His brother returned the favour. "Make me ya dog cunt."

After the meeting, Toby headed towards last period. He didn't have Henry or Holly in this class, so he mainly just sat on his own. Whilst he was sneaking on his phone as he always did, he overheard a conversation.

"Yeah, can you believe it?" A girl spoke."I think ____ was mad because the other was hanging out with these two boys." Toby couldn't hear the name that was spoken, it sort of blurred together and seemed almost unintelligible unless you were apart of the actual conversation. "No way!" Another girl gossiped. "What did she do after that? Did they get into a punch up? The first girl looked to the second, disappointingly shaking her head. "No, she walked out without a word. Wasn't seen by anyone for like the rest of lunch."

Hearing that bit of the discussion seemed to resonate a lot. But why? "Wait..." Toby thought, suddenly remembering he'd seen Holly crying not even half an hour ago. "Did this argument have anything to do with it?  Was that why she was crying when I ran I ran into her earlier?" Toby went through the rest of the lesson, trying not to think of it much. He'd never admit it, but secretly, the thought that one of the girls in the argument could have been Holly bothered him. Maybe something in the air changed on the night of the sleep out, He'd never actually felt worried about her before. This was a new feeling for him.

After school, Toby went over to Henry's so they could chill and play games. Her knew that Henry was friends with Holly too, so he spent half the time he spent there debating on whether or not he should tell Henry about the possible incident. After a long while of careful consideration, Toby felt it wasn't his place to talk about it to Henry. If Holly wanted to tell them, she would. Besides, there was the possibility that he was wrong, and just reading too much into it. Maybe she was crying for another reason. Toby doubted it, but he wasn't going to say anything anyways.

A few hours later, Toby decided to shoot Holly a text.

T: "Hey, how are you?"

It took a while for him to receive a response.

H: "I'm fine, why?

He looked at the message, trying to decipher it. Reading texts is usually easy, but to Toby, women were a whole other species. What if there was a secret code to her message? Toby groaned in distress.

T: "No reason, i just wanted to see how you are. Is that such a bad thing?"

H: "No. It's just you're not the 'just checking up on you' type."

T: "Fair enough, but nah nothing is going on. Just genuinely wanted to see how you were."

He hoped not to raise any further suspicion.

H: "Well, i'm okay, just a little swamped with homework and assignments."

Maybe Toby was wrong, maybe she was just crying because of school stress. He didn't give the situation another thought, and turned back to Henry to get his mind off of it. "Oh yeah by the way.." Henry started. "Mum wants to know if you want to stay the night." Toby jumped at the offer as if it was only valid for a few moments. "Cool." Henry commented. "Sounds fun."

The boys had a lot of fun that night. They played games, ordered pizza, and talked shit about almost everyone at school. "Anything interesting happen today?" Henry questioned. Toby started sweating. Why was Henry asking him this? Did he know something? Toby tried to shake the thought. "No!" He responded quickly. Almost a little too quickly. His quick response sounded alarms in Henry's eyes, causing him to shoot Toby a suspicious look. "Okay then." The blonde boy laughed, grabbing another slice of pizza. The boys stayed up until at least 4 am doing god knows what. They had only just drifted off to sleep when Toby's phone went off.

It was Holly...
