After the second rider had fallen off the bull, Toby stuck to his word and told Holly he'd take her anywhere she wanted to go. Holly decided she wanted to go out for something to eat, and Toby had actually heard of a cute little 80s diner that had recently opened in town, so he asked her if she wanted to go there. Holly's face lit up at his suggestion.
Toby and Holly turned around, and started to walk back to the car. Toby waited for Holly to sort herself out before turning the car on and driving off.
It took the two around 20-30 minutes to get to the diner, and when Holly got an angled look at it, she was dumbfounded. The store front seemed very retro, much like the diners you'd see on TV. There were luscious, green hedges that surrounded the front of the diner, giving it a very natural vibe. As she walked in, she took a second to really envelop herself in the busy yet upbeat environment. The floor had that typical blck and white checkered pattern, the leather seating booths were an intriguing, blood red shade that paired well with the silver tables. The front island had the same blood red countertop, and the body of it matched the silver tables. The colour scheme really paired well together.
They ordered their food and drinks and as they seated themselves at a booth, Holly noticed that the off-white beige coloured walls were lined with 80s themed posters, decor and such. It really helped with the retro ambience of the diner.
The two of them sat across from another, engaging in casual conversation. "So, despite the whole bone snapping fiasco, how did you like the rodeo?" Toby asked, taking a bite out of one of the complementary breadsticks that lay in a little red basket on the table. Holly took a moment to think back to their prior activity, trying to deliberate what her answer would be. "Honest;y, I hate to admit it, but it wasn't half bad." Holly nodded slowly, a 'not so bad after all' type of frown evident on her face. A beaming smile made its way in to Toby's expression as his eyes lit up. "I mean that's cool and all, but wouldn't it be kind of hard to enjoy since you spent half the time with your face hidden in my chest?" Holly scoffed and rolled her eyes as she shot him a pinched expression. "Excuse me for having some human fucking decency and not blatantly cheering on when someone hurts themselves!" She defended, crossing her arms.
Toby sighed, knowing full well he wasn't going to win this particular argument. The two of them engaged in small talk until they got their food. Toby ordered a beef burger with a side of chilli cheese fries, and Holly ordered the same. Both of their meals came with an 80s style vanilla milkshake. The both of them sat together, not only enjoying the food, but also enjoying each others company. Even after they finished, the duo elected to stay there a little longer, just so that they could keep their conversation going.
After maybe 20 or so minutes of banter, Toby and Holly decided it was time to head back to the station. They chatted briefly along the way, as Toby was more focused on listening to his Midland and Luke Combs mashup playlist. Once they got back, the two of them agreed that for the rest of the day, they were just going to lay on the couch and binge watch Netflix. Toby expressed his appreciation of the fact that Holly agreed to go to the rodeo with him by letting her choose the movie or show they would watch.
Before doing anything, Holly wanted to clean off her face and get into some comfier clothes, so while she was doing that, Toby went to the pantry and grabbed a few snacks just in case they got hungry. Holly came out around 15 minutes later and laid herself down on the couch as she grabbed the remote. She decided she wanted to rewatch the B99 series, and to her surprise, Toby didn't object. They both actually quite loved the show.
Much of their watch time was silent, excepting the occasional joke or comment. Even though they weren't out on the town, or going to any other country theme events that were on that day, the pair of them still felt quite cozy staying inside. In a way, they sought comfort in each other's company.
During the middle of one of the episodes they were watching, they both reached for the singular bag of chips that lay on the coffee table beside them. As soon as their hands collided, they locked eyes. "Let go, Holly." Toby demanded, trying to sway the packet in his favour. Holly's eyes narrowed. "No, you let go! I reached for it first."
"Well you may have reached for it first, but I'm the one that actually got out the snacks, so, without me, you wouldn't even be touching it!" Toby protested angrily, still pulling on the packet. Their petty squabble went on for about another 5 minutes before Toby gave up, allowing Holly the long end of the stick, while he just opted for something else.
