It had been around 2 days since the rodeo, and Holly and Toby were due home. The two of them had packed their bags the night before, so there was no rush in the morning to get all their stuff together. They awoke early that morning, Holly seemed a little unresponsive, but it was excusable as it was so early the sun wasn't even up yet. Toby knew Holly wasn't a morning person, so he didn't push any buttons.
After maybe an hour into their ride home, Holly seemed to brighten up a bit. Toby noticed this and his hand made its way towards the radio controls, turning up the music he had been playing. He looked to Holly with a smile before hyping himself as he sung. Holly rolled her eyes, shaking her head softly as she allowed a small smile to make its way across her face. Toby removed one hand from the steering wheel and nudged her with it, urging her to reciprocate his energy. She started to sing in a monotone voice, making it obvious to him she wasn't enjoying the spontaneous activity.
Holly seemed very disinterested until a certain song came on. The Type Of Love We Make by Luke Combs. The second the instrumental track started playing, her mood changed. She seemed almost elated now.
"We've been burnin' both ends
Keepin' the lights on
So I've been thinkin' we need
A little time alone"
Toby slowed the car a little as he made direct eye contact with Holly before singing the next part.
"So whatcha say we cancel our plans?
Tonight, I'm only gonna be your man"
Holly's heart skipped a beat the second she heard those words escaped his lips. She continued singing along with him after that. Then the chorus hit.
"Well, there ain't no way, baby
To get me out this house
When you look this good
What could I even think about? Oh
Besides turnin' round and lockin' the door
Watchin' your red dress fall to the floor"Toby and Holly screamed the song at the top of their lungs, as it was one they both shared a love for.
~time skip a few hours~
Hours had passed, and the two of them had finally gotten back into Perth. They pulled in to Holly's driveway and the duo simultaneously exited the car. Holly went around to the boot, grabbing out her suitcase and walking into her house as Toby trailed behind her. Holly approached her living room to find her Dad sitting on the couch. He seemed to be having a conversation with someone. "Hey, Dad, I'm home!" She greeted. Holly placed her luggage on the floor and ran to her father, embracing him tightly. She released herself from his grasp after a few seconds and turned to the person who was on the couch.
"Henry?!" Holly asked, a tone of surprise in her voice. The tall, blonde haired boy stood up, flashing her a smile. "I knew you were coming home today, so i thought that I'd wait here for you so I could see you once you got home." Holly's small smile widened, and her eyes lit up. "Aww, that's so sweet! You didn't have to do that!" She insisted pulling Henry in to a hug. She breathed in his laden yet inebriating scent. She felt at home. After a few seconds their bodies parted, and they flashed each other another smile. Toby walked behind her, placing one hand on her shoulder. She glanced at her luggage, then back to Toby. She did this for a moment before she spoke. "I'm so sorry you couldn't come." She started. Henry looked at her, confused. "What do you mean?" He questioned, alternating his gaze between Holly and Toby. Holly gave him a look as if to say what she was implying was obvious. "Toby said you couldn't come because you had things to do." She stated, her tone slightly suspicious now. Henry looked at Toby, his eyes staring daggers into Toby's. "Did he now?" He questioned again, raising his eyebrows.
Holly sensed something was off, and looked up at the brunette boy who stood next to her. "You didn't actually ask him to come, did you?" She whispered softly. Toby froze, unsure of what to say. He shook his head. "I can't fucking believe you! You told me that you asked him, and now I find out that he wasn't even considered in the conversation? That's not okay! How could I be so fucking stupid? And to think I let you..." She stopped herself from finishing that sentence. "I'm sorry, I got caught up in the moment and I didn't know what to say!" Holly stared at him with a blank expression. "It's fine. I now know what I mean to you. At least now I know that was the only reason you invited me in the first place." Holly started to sob. Toby tried to explain, but he was cut off by Holly storming off as she ran upstairs and into her room.
Toby turned to the two men who were now staring at him. Holly's father chimed in, a disapproving look on his face. "What did you do to my daughter?"
