KABANATA 7

The man has huge scratch scar on his left cheek across to his right cheek. It looks like he got it from an animal, or wolf to be precised.

“Shifters were really rare this days.” the man said and he licked his lower lip like a maniac.

“Huh?” Ethan asked, stunned.

“Kita mo ‘to?” tanong ng lalaki habang tinuturo ang peklat sa kaniyang mukha. “It's a mark that my last shifter gave me. Oh... my little wolf really loved me so much.” he said with a laugh that wasn't quite a laugh.

Ethan's heart dropped. He tried to free himself but the man has a death grip. He doesn't want to let him go.

“Come home with me, little wolf.” the guy said.

Ethan felt uncomfortable and he raised his non-dominant fist and he delivered a blow against the man's face.

The man laughed, he fished a silver knife from his pocket and raised it. Ethan's first instinct was to block his face. He groaned painfully when the knife scratched his left arm. Crimson blood quickly dripped from the cut.

Ethan suddenly felt a sense of inhuman strength in his body and he kicked the man away from him.

The man flew a few meters away and that's Ethan's queue to run away as far as he can.

Then he felt another strong grip. Ethan was about to kick when he saw his classmate, Carlos.

“Caloy?” Ethan asked confusedly.

“Shhh. Sama ka sa'kin.” sabi nito at nagpahila lang sa kanya si Ethan.

“Saan tayo pupunta?” tanong ni Ethan.

“Bahay namin.” sagot ni Carlos.

“Kailangan kong mag-grocery.” sabi ni Ethan.

Natawa si Carlos. “Mamaya na. Tignan mo nga muna yang sugat mo bago mo isiping mag-grocery.”

Ilang minuto lang ang lumipas ng makalabas sila sa alley at pumasok sila sa isang malaking bahay. Nasa likuran ito ng supermarket.

“Kayo ang may-ari ng supermarket?” tanong ni Ethan.

Tumango lang si Carlos at nasampal na naman ng kahirapan si Ethan. Pero hindi na siya magtataka dahil halos ng nag-aaral sa international school ay mayaman.

“Upo ka muna, tol. Kunin ko lang saglit yung first aid kit.”

Umupo si Ethan at nilibot niya ang paningin. Madaming mga dekorasyon na nagmumukhang mamahalin gaya na lamang ng malaking vase na nasa tabi ng hagdanan.

Nanatiling nakapako si Ethan sa kaniyang kina-uupuan at hinintay si Carlos. Tapos biglaan siyang napatingin sa salamin at nagulat siya nang makita niyang kulay ginto ang kanyang mga mata.

“Mahilig ka pala sa contact lenses.” sabi ni Carlos at umupo siya sa coffee table.

Ethan looked at him questioningly.

Carlos hissed in curiosity and leaned closer to Ethan. “Why do they look so real?”

“Send ko sa'yo yung shop link kung gusto mo rin.” Ethan played along, there's no way he's going to tell that those eyes of his were real.

“Nah, I'm good.” Carlos said.

Hinawakan ni Carlos ang kamay ni Ethan at hinila niya ito ng banayad para makita ang sugat niya.
