I was happy to be back in my normal classes again. Cedric resumed our weekly training sessions, but he had to take a break when his game against Gryffindor grew closer. His captain was demanding crazy long training hours, just like Wood was for ours. This gave me free time to focus on stealing the stone.
I had decided to steal the stone before Quirrell or Harry ever got near it, and also just to prove to Dumbledore how stupid his plan was. Fluffy was the easiest part to get past for me, he already knew me and liked my whistling. The game of chess would also be simple enough for me, I wasn't concerned. The potions riddle might catch me up, but I remember from the stories that the correct bottle was small, so hopefully that helps me once I get there. I was looking forward to the trolls and the flying keys though, that just sounded like fun. I debated on bringing the twins in with me, but I also wanted to leave them out in case it got dangerous. They're brilliant, but can be reckless and careless too easily at times.
I was noticing Quirrell getting more and more sickly looking. I'm assuming Voldemort's residency in the back of his head was killing him off, and he would probably go for the unicorn soon. I was curious, so I followed him into the forest one night, riding silently on my broom with a disillusionment charm on me again. He was cloaked, and clearly hunting for something. He was following tracks and made it to a unicorn. Charlie and I found one once when we were wandering last year, and it was so beautiful then, just as it is now.
I sent out an explosion charm into the ground between them, and the unicorn started to run away quickly, and Quirrell turned around and started to fire spells where I had shot mine from. I was long gone already though, speeding away high into the sky. I looked back to see if he was following me, but I didn't see anything. On the safe side, I zig-zagged around for half an hour over the forest before spotting a familiar mane of hair in the dark woods.
"Posocus, hello." I greet the handsome centaur as I land my broom near him. He was alone, just gazing at the stars in a clearing so I figured he wouldn't mind my stopping in. As it was, he waited a solid minute before replying or even acknowledging me.
"Nova Black, you have returned to the forest once again. You must leave immediately, there is a great evil here." Posocus replies mysteriously.
"I know, I just sent a hex at him and allowed a unicorn to flee from him. Has he been here often?" I ask casually and he turns to look at me with his knowledgeable violet eyes.
"Unsuccessfully, yes. He will gain success soon though, no amount of interference will save the unicorn from its fate, unfortunately. He will slay a creature so pure, and become cursed with a half life." He says to me fervently.
"He already lives a cursed life, I doubt he'll notice the difference." I scoff out, and he actually raises the corner of his lips in a ghost of a smile. Were he a full human, I would be swooning at him right now. Seriously, it's not fair a half human creature can look so good.
"You know already of his cursed existence. Have you watched the stars on his fate?" He asks softly, looking up to the sky again.
"I'm not one much for divination, I don't take it at school, I don't think our professor there is very good. Could you teach me something?" I ask innocently, hoping he will agree.
"Centaurs are not teachers of humans, just as we are not students of them." He declines gracefully.
"That's a shame, you have a wealth of knowledge within your culture, I would have liked to learn." I say genuinely, and again he had that handsome almost-smile on his face. "I don't suppose you want to tell me of my full prophecy yet?"
"It is not yet time, for it is not yet formed fully. Shadows, they ebb and flow, ever changing with the tides. Your nova star is shining brighter though, it will peak in the years to come, all actions building to grow its brightness now." He riddles out to me.
