One thing I had expected to change from the stories was the Dementor attack on Harry over the summer. But alas, it still happened right after his birthday. Good thing was he and I were out in the forest together doing some night training to enhance his hearing and my stealth when we both stopped dead, feeling the inhuman cold wrap around us.
"Are you doing this?" Harry asks me as we feel the dread seep into our bones, panting lightly from both the cold and the fatigue from training.
"No, it's Dementors. Come here." I warn him urgently, and he joins my side just as two Dementors descend on us. "Don't." I grab his wrist as he raises his wand in self-defense. "Expecto Patronum." I call out, thinking about Jason coming back to life and about Neji being saved from death, my two happiest memories I have.
My robin Patronus burst from my wand, and speedily chased off the two Dementors as Harry and I raced back to the inner protection of the runes wards in the forest around the cottage.
We stood sentry as I released the Patronus and the Dementors attempted to get us again, only to get too close to the wards. They both shrieked an inhuman scream as they were shredded apart by strips of silver light, disintegrating entirely.
"What was that?!" Harry asks in shock as Dad and Remus came running out of the house.
"That Harry, is why you should have taken Ancient Runes." I smirk at the boy, turning to Dad and Remy. "It was the Dementors, I didn't think they would still come. Good thing I was here, it could have turned bad and into a pointless trial for Harry. The protections worked great!" I add cheerily at the end. I had combined two different runes together to add a barrier and a delayed concentrated Patronus attack. They were designed to kill Dementors instead of repelling them, and they worked fantastically. No one has ever created a way to kill Dementors like this, it was an experiment for me, and it worked wonderfully.
"Well done, Princess!" Dad calls out excitedly. "Those protections worked great." I had actually created this protection from scratch, based on theory only, so we didn't know if it was really going to work or not.
"Yeah, but it did destroy the barrier." Remus adds in, looking at where the runes are. I joined him, seeing the runes smoking and fading away.
"Eh, it was worth it. I can make more again." I shrug it off. "I have plenty of happy memories to feed into them." It takes about a week to make these Dementor barrier runes, and I had to concentrate on happy memories while I was forming them. It was actually very fun to do, even if it was time consuming.
The rest of summer went uneventfully. Harry and I spent a lot of time at the Weasley's, usually whenever Dad or Remus couldn't be around or nearby. It's not that I needed watching anymore, it's just that Harry needed more than just me watching over him now that Voldy was out and about, even if he was laying low wherever he was right now. Harry was happier to know what was going on, and he was very gun-ho about wanting to join the fight, though everyone else was against it, stating he needed to focus on school and not worry about the Dark Lord. It was finally actually Dad who got him to calm down and focus on his own personal training and to not worry so much.
Dad's office of Aurors had already caught six known Death Eaters since the night of Voldemort's resurrection. Lucius Malfoy had been one of them, he was caught because of the marking on his face that I left him, and is currently in Azkaban. His wife and son were pardoned though because they played no part in his actions, which made me happy that my cousin was safe. Dad recommended not writing to Draco since any of his letters in or out were being monitored by the Ministry, and Bruce would potentially be at risk of injury if he went to Malfoy Manor, so I just had to wait to see if he was ok himself when school started again.
