Baba Ali dialed Alhaji Nabeel's number immediately he was in his room.
"Hello Assalamu alaikum! Baba barka da wuni." Said Alhaji Nabeel immediately he picked up the call.
"Nabeel so this is how it's going to be koh? Is this how you will go ahead and spoil things for your nephew? After warning you not to let anyone absolutely no one on this earth to know about the letter we saw in Katsina but you still went ahead and tell Alhaji's parent. Now you have achieved your aim, I have never seen Ali or Zeenatu fighting but I saw them at loggerheads today all thanks to you, the house is completely a mess now. I am very disappointed in you wallahi."
Alhaji Nabeel was dumbfounded, he was short of words. A huge lump chocking his throat and he couldn't even find his voice again.
"Are you going to say something or you are just going to stay there quiet and pretend not to hear me."
"Baba Ali Wallahi tallahi believe me I have no idea what you are talking about, I will never do such a thing by ruining Abdulrahman's happiness he is my son too. Wallahi I didn't tell anybody this matter and I have no idea how they get to know about it."
"Well now the deed is done, and if you didn't tell them then who did, me? Because it's only the two of us that knows about the letter sai Allah sai kuma wanda ya rubuta and tell me if you are not the one how on earth did that letter get to them? Yes I saw the letter, that same paper you gave me in the hotel room in Katsina and I told you to do away with it, how did they get a hold of it? Now you are still going to tell me that you don't know??"
Alhaji Nabeel was quite again and before he could talk, Baba Ali started again.
"Now since you want to play dumb let me break it down to you. You came back home and couldn't keep the news of the letter to yourself and so you told your wife about it and even showed her the letter. You might have kept it within her reach and when she couldn't keep what you told her to herself she decided to tell her sister after all it's the matter of family reputation at stake here and so she went to her sister's house and told her everything and when she didn't seem convinced she showed her the evidence which is that very same stupid letter. Now does all of these sound familiar or make sense to you? Answer me now because I don't have all day here."
Everything suddenly clicked together, it all made sense now. There is no doubt that his wife is capable of doing what Baba Ali all said because he had a feeling that she was lying when she said she didn't see any letter in his luggage, she saw the letter and she even took it and then she acted all unaware of it. He will surely deal with her later but for now he has to clear the first part of Baba Ali's theory that he was the one that told his wife about the letter, no he didn't and he would have never done that but maybe his chances to prove himself innocent now are very slim but he will still take them.
"Baba I agree with you that my wife get hold of the letter and further told her sister about it but I will swear for you here and in every other place wallahi tallahi I never told my wife about the letter. I forgot the letter in my used clothes pocket and when I came back home I totally forgot to remove it from there, I felt asleep shortly after coming back because I was tired. When I woke and suddenly remember about the letter I couldn't find it, I asked Zakiyya if she saw it when unpacking my luggage but she denied ever seeing anything like a letter in my clothes. I had no idea that she had seen it and would even do this. I am very disappointed with myself too for letting you down. The biggest mistake I made is by bringing that letter home along with me, I should have thorn it apart that very night in the hotel or rather burnt it down to ashes, maybe we wouldn't have been here saying all this. I am very sorry Baba, I am deeply and sincerely sorry, now what can we do to fix this please? I don't want this wedding to be canceled because of this wallahi. I will feel guilty for the rest of my life"
