"So what time are you leaving tomorrow inshaa Allah? Before Jumma'at??" Maryam asked Abdulrahman who was sitting directly opposite her in their guest living room. It was Thursday already and Abdulrahman came to visit Maryam as they have agreed two days ago.
"Yes Inshaa Allah that is what I am planning, you know Katsina to Abuja is not here ba? Garinmu da nisa." He said to her smiling and she smiled back.
"So are you nervous about telling your parents about us? Because I am kind of...." Maryam said with a worried expression that Abdulrahman didn't missed and he sat forward on the couch.
"Look Maryam, relax okay? It's nothing to be worried about. And guess what I am planning?" He asked her with a smile.
"What is it that you are planning?" She asked smiling back.
"Typical Nigerian, answering a question with a question and I just asked you to guess." Maryam laughed at his scrunched up face expression.
"Okay I am sorry but I am not good at guesses, so please just tell me." He sighed defeated.
"Okay then I will tell you. I am planning on asking my father to sent his relatives for gaisuwa and neman aure." He said grinning.
Maryam was shocked! Like is he for real? She would be so excited and over the moon if that happens. How she really wanted to make their relationship known to her father, he didn't know.
"Ahhmm... Maryam? Are you okay with it?? Or am I going faster than my shadow? Maybe I should let us know each other more or wait for you to finish school first." He said in a sad voice but she shook her head grinning.
"No that's not what my silence means. I was actually happy and super shocked that we were having the same thoughts. I wanted to ask you when you will be ready to meet my father and then you just said this, I am so excited and happy right now." She said smiling brightly.
Abdulrahman was evidently happy and excited too.
"Wow... I don't know what to say, for the first time in a very long time words have failed me. I am very happy right now Maryam. Thank you, thank you for giving me this golden opportunity and I promise I won't take it for granted neither will you regret it inshaa Allah." He told her holding her gaze while he smiled at her and she smiled back. She muttered Allah yasa looking down at her fingers.
They continued chatting until they heard a Salam which made them both drew their attention to the door. It was Yusuf along with Maryam's younger siblings, he just went to pick them up from school, Zarah included.
They all entered the living room and Abdulrahman quickly rose up to his feet to greet Yusuf. They shook hands smiling at each other as if they know each other for a long time.
"So finally Maryam we have got to see the famous Alhaji Abdulrahman." Yusuf said in a teasing voice to Maryam who kept her gaze on the ground smiling while her younger ones greeted Abdulrahman. Maryam introduces each of her sibling, Zarah included.
Maryam thought Zarah will behave in her I don't care attitude today too as she always do but to Maryam's surprise she was being so nice and sweet today and Maryam couldn't help but to wonder what is wrong with her but she quickly chase that thought out of her mind, thinking that maybe she has changed now.
Everyone left the room except for Yusuf who stayed back to chat a little with Abdulrahman before he left too. Abdulrahman was happy talking to Yusuf, he is such a nice person he thought to himself smiling.
"Why are you smiling all by yourself?" Maryam asked him bringing him out of his thoughts.
"No it's nothing, you have a very nice family." He said impressed and Maryam smiled while nodding her head.
