"Wallahi Allah baka isa ba, I am not going anywhere" Zarah was the one screaming on top of her voice while Jafar was dragging his suitcase out of the bedroom into the living room.
"Zarah I don't want trouble this hot afternoon fa! Didn't I tell you that this house isn't mine and our rent is soon expiring. I told you that I don't have money to pay anymore rent and we are shifting back to my mum's place." Zarah was looking at him disgustingly with her hands akimbo.
"Yes you did and you also told me that our rent is expiring in 2 or three months if I could remember clearly." He dropped the bag in the living room and went back into the bedroom while she follows him. He was trying to put his things together but she isn't even letting him concentrate.
"Yes our rent isn't expired yet but I don't want to live here anymore. I just thought that the sooner you face reality the better for you. Even if you didn't leave now sooner or later you will saboda ba gidan babanki bane so I have decided that we are leaving before time and that's today. I am tired of your stupidity already, I want to go back and join my family, maybe I will get some peace of mind which I lack here. Zarah snorted at him.
"Look who is talking about peace of mind here, Jafar between you and I who lacks peace of mind, huh? I am the one that should be saying this and you know it very well. I am the one who is being abused in this so called marriage. You always find a way to hurt me physically and emotionally and you are the one saying this now? And talking about family and going back, you think I don't have a family anymore or what?"
"Of course you do and guess what you can go back to them if you're tired of this so called marriage but beware that I am not divorcing you because you haven't given me what I want so even if you go back there they will gladly send you back to me. So do yourself a favor and start packing your stuff because when I am done I will not wait for you and if I leave this house I am not coming back just so you know." He left her there dumbfounded, confused on what next to do. Maybe she should just do as he say because it seems like she doesn't have any option here or she should just wait for a little while maybe he is joking, right this has to be a joke. She went back to the living room but he is not there, she checked the other room but didn't find him there too. Maybe he has gone out she thought. She just laid down on the three seater couch watching the tv and she slowly dozed off.
When Jafar came back he met Zarah crying in the living room. He took a seat opposite her not really bothered about the condition she is in.
"Ke kuma kukan munafurcin me kike yi? Why are you such a drama queen??" Zarah wiped out her tears with her hands and slumped down on the carpet.
"Jafar I beg you in the name of God please allow us to stay here till our rent expires, I promise to follow you to Mama's place then but please don't force me to go now." He was silent, staring at her, a part of him telling him to grant her her wish while a bigger part is telling him no, he can't possibly just agree to whatever she wants. He has to show her he is the man of the house. But then maybe he can adjust a little just because he saw how much she was pleading. Let it not be like he is not a human or a Muslim for that matter, zuciyar imani they say.
"Okay I have heard you, I won't force you to go now but we will leave by the end of this month which is in two weeks time. I suppose you will use this time to pack your things and enjoy your last days here." She jumped up happily taking a seat beside him.
