My Sister My Enemy

Chapter Two

The smile on Maryam's face quickly faded as she went deep into the world of thoughts but her friend quickly brought her back by pressing a hand on her shoulder.

"Maryam i am all ears, tell me."

"Hhmmnn.... so you know how i used to complaint to you every time that i have problems and issues, right? So that is what has been eating me up basically."

"I know, and i also know that everyone has problems or issues but you just don't let them eat you up like this. It's going to affect your health and certainly giving you a high blood pressure, which i am sure it's not good for you at this age in fact not now not ever. But still, tell me what problems are you facing? I am really concerned."

"Well.... its my family."

"Okay! what about them? I know you are not in good terms with some of them but has it changed levels?"

"Yeah kind of...."

"And what does that suppose to mean?"

"It means that not only do i have problem with my father's family but my own blood sister has now turn into my enemy." Maryam said with a tear rolling down her cheek and Raudah quickly wiped it away with her thumb and she took a deep sigh...

"Maryam what do you mean by your own blood sister is your enemy? How and why?? Wait, which of your sisters sef???" Maryam took a deep sigh.

"I just meant what i said, my new enemy now is my sister and she is no one but Zarah. As for how and why she hates me, it is still a mystery to me too" Raudah was just shocked to hear Zarah's name and she just sat forward and closer to her friend.

"Like are you serious? Zarah of all people?? What have you done to her that she hates you??? I thought you are the perfect sisters, you were almost always together back then in school and everywhere sef."

"I know right but i swear i have been thinking about it everyday but i just can't come up with anything in my head."

"No way! there has to be something that you did to her maybe unknowingly and she has kept a grudge against you about it. Think Maryam, it can be anything"

"Raudah i would have known or remember anything if there is because the amount of thinking i have been doing on this issue no be small thing fa and that is why i have been getting smaller and smaller"

"You are right, amma gaskiya ta bani mamaki (but she really suprised me). But wait a second, do you mean now that everyone at home knows that you are not in good terms or are you just the one that observed the situation?"

"No, nobody knows. I just came to know about it and now i have clearly understand the reason behind her actions towards me. In fact, so many times Abdul and Mama would be asking me what is my problem but i just kept telling them its nothing or i am just not feeling fine because i know it will hurt mama and it is just like a secret which will not be proper or nice if people came to know about it. I refuse to tell anyone what really is my problem because they will take me as an evil sister trying to bad mouth or pour my frustration on my younger sister because she is getting married before me and yes i forgot to tell you that she is getting married next month and you already know that Zainab is married with a baby boy now, so it will just be as if i am trying to be a hater or something."

"Woah, wait a minute! You mean Zarah is getting married and you are just telling me!!!"

"Well am sorry! its not like i don't want to tell you but i forgot to because honestly it's something that i don't want to talk about. And it's not like i am jealous but it just hurts me whenever i think of how she rubs it on my face that she is getting married before me and it's all my fault because i said i will only marry a rich man." Maryam started crying again but she calmed down after a few seconds.

"Eyyah! I am so sorry my dear but still you should have told mama about it, i am sure she will be able to settle you two. I know this must be very hard on you but if you don't want to talk about it we can just let it be, okay?"

"No no, i want to talk about it with you because i am sure its going to be a sort of relief from the heavy burden my heart has been carrying and like i told you i don't want to trouble mama anymore. She is already facing enough with my father's family." she said with a smile and Raudah's heart just melt at the sight of her friend smiling and seeing how strong she is really trying to be.

"Okay then! if you say so. So tell me, how exactly did you found out that she doesn't like you?"

"So it was like a week ago, we went to a family gathering and all that and from there we went to visit our cousins. So we met a guy at our cousin's place and he is a friend to Yaya Ahmad. We just greeted and entered a bedroom to give the guys their space at the living room. So after a short while, we left. Two days after our visit a number called me, at first i don't want to pick the call but because i was bored and doing nothing i just picked up the call and after the greetings and pleasantries, he told me his name is Sadiq and he was the same Yaya Ahmad's friend we saw the other day. I smiled because i saw that coming, he was staring at me when we met and has been smiling since he saw me till the time we left. So we talked for a while and he told me that he got my number from one of Yaya Ahmad's sisters and i already knew it because that is the only possible place he will get it as i dont have many contacts. So, we kept in touch for two days, he was calling me, texting me and we were also chatting on whats app."

"There is this time he called me but i wasn't close to the phone so unfortunately Zarah picked up the call. I don't know what they said but i saw a change in him from there on and she didn't even tell me that he has called me. I called him afterwards but he doesn't pick and he hardly reply my messages. So just like 3 days ago, i was lying down in our room and Zarah was outside the window of our bedroom, then i heard her speaking with someone over the phone in a hush voice. I didn't want to eavesdrop but something caught my attention and when i carefully listened to her, she was talking to Sadiq." Raudah's eyes are just getting bigger and bigger in suprise.

"That is not even the suprising part. What i heard her saying was something that completely shocked me and left me speechless."

"What did you heard her saying?"

"I heard her saying that he should leave me and start loving Aisha our younger sister." Raudah's eyes were as big as a saucer and they almost fall out of their socket.

"Oh my God!!! Raudah exclaimed loudly....
