Chapter Twenty Six

"Enough about her. To what do I owe this generous video call?" He asked her smirking while she rolled her eyes which made him laugh.

"I don't know, I was just kind of bored you know."

"Young lady stop lying and just come straight to the point. Just say you miss me and my handsome face."

Maryam laughed at his statement before replying "You are so full of yourself and that's not true. Like I said, I was bored. So how are you?"

Abdulrahman sensed the attempt to change the topic by Maryam so he let her be. "Well I am fine just that I have been missing something so bad." He winked at her and she chuckled.

"And what is the great Alhaji Abdulrahman missing terribly?" She asked smirking.

"Well it's actually a person and I am talking to her right now."

"Hhmmnn, your bad because I don't think that person missed you a bit."

Abdulrahman laughed shaking his head. "Wow! That was the biggest lie of the century you know but I will take it as you missed me too, thank you."

"Whatever! So when are coming back?"

"Asked the person that said she didn't missed me a bit, well I don't think I will come back any time soon since my presence is not needed at all."

"C'mon, don't be a drama king. I know you want to come back so bad, so just tell me."

Abdulrahman sighed in defeat. "Yeah you are so right, I want to come back so bad but I think I will reach Tuesday. I have some business reporting and conversation to do with Abba which I wasn't able to do since I came yesterday. So inshaa Allah I will try and round everything up so that I can leave on Tuesday."

"Okay, Allah ya kaimu lafiya."

"Ameen Ameen. So guess what?"

"I thought I told you that I am not good at guesses, so just tell me what is it."

"Yeah I know but you can get this one, trust me just try once please."

"Okay, you have told your parents about me and us, right?"

"Right! You see you got it right this time, you are a genius." He said grinning while she smiles.

"Well, I am not that genius because your sister just gave me a header that you have talked about us with them."

"Yeah that talkative sure did. Well, I did told them about us and Alhamdulillah I have finally gotten their consent and blessings."

"What do you mean by finally? Were they against it at first??" Maryam asked fear evident on her face and Abdulrahman could see how she became tensed in seconds. He was contemplating on telling her what his parent have initially planned for him and the main reason for him coming to Abuja this particular time. He finally made the decision of telling her everything because it's better if she knows now than later.

"Yeah, at first Mama was against it, not that she is against our relationship but she wanted me to get married to my cousin and that is her niece, Firdaus."

"Okay go on I am listening." Maryam said with so much fear evident on her face.

"Well! I kindly declined the offer and told them that I have someone that I like now. At first she was thinking of how to tell her sister that I don't like her daughter but Abba came to my rescue. Together we pursued her until she drop the Firdaus issue and finally agreed to my own choice. So that's what happened in summary."

All this while he was talking, Maryam's heart was beating faster than it should. Even though his mother has now agreed to their wedding, she doesn't know why she is still having that inner gut feeling that something is going to go wrong somewhere along the way. She was far lost in her thoughts before Abdulrahman brought her back when he called her name.

"Maryam are you okay? What happened?? You look lost. Tell me what is it please?"

"Hhmmnn Abdul it's nothing, I was just thinking what if something went wrong? If your mother doesn't want our relationship in the first place don't you think it will be best if we just end it before we go too far?" She asked him with a confused expression.

"Before we go too far you said? How far more do you want us to go Maryam? Let me tell you this, wallahi I have gone very far in loving you. My heart doesn't want anything else now apart from you, I can't afford to loose you Maryam. Your love has become a part of me which cannot be taken away unless they want to see the end of me. So please stop saying that. Stay positive and keep praying, Inshaa Allah nothing will go wrong, at least not from my own part, that I promise you bi'izinillah. So now just relax okay?"

Maryam felt at ease after hearing all those words coming from Abdulrahman, she was so happy to have someone like him as her lover and she is now 200% sure that there is no going back for her now, as she is deeply in love with him too.

"Well it's okay if you say so. May Allah see us through."

"Ameen yauwa haba ko ke fa." He said smiling while she smiled back at him. They talked a little bit more before hanging up.
