2025- Avengers Compound: 1 day until Battle Brooklyn

Everything was ready. From the plan to everyone knowing their duties, there wasn't a single thing we weren't sure of. Everything was good to go just 24 hours before the battle. Everyone was prepared mentally as well, we all knew what was going to happen and as much as we all wanted to get some sleep before the battle everyone was still awake. It was well past 2am and not a single soul was getting ready for bed or even going in that general direction so I set up a campfire in the back of the compound on the lawn and everyone was now seated around it.

Natasha was sitting in my lap as we all talked and enjoyed each other's company. It was bittersweet but also extremely comforting to have everyone around just mere hours before one of the biggest battles we'll ever be a part of. The only one missing was Tony only because we had sent him to Greece last night so he wouldn't be tempted to help with the fight. Tony, Morgan and Pepper were all safe. The same with Steve as well, he was peacefully sleeping in his room right now, he would be nowhere near the battle.

Everyones loved ones were safe, the tunnels were prepared for evacuation which would commence in the next few hours before Wanda and Strange came barreling into the city. The goal was to have everyone out before Wanda even stepped foot in Brooklyn. My ground team was all over it though, they had everything they needed and I was so proud of this makeshift group of Avengers I had to put together at the last minute.

27 days we were given to create a plan to evacuate 4 surrounding boroughs, not including Brooklyn. But it was done, now all there was left to do was prepare ourselves and wait.

"Do you want to sleep at all?" Natasha whispered in my ear, breaking my train of thought.

"I'm not very tired, are you?" I asked and Natasha shook her head.

"Not even close." Natasha said in a manner that made me believe that maybe she wanted to go to bed but sleeping wasn't the goal. I smirked at the thought but it also might not have been appropriate right at this moment.

"Come with me." I said as I tapped her leg to indicate for her to get off.

"Where are we going?" Natasha asked as I grabbed her hand.

"Somewhere."

"Really guys?! Can you not keep it in your pants for a few hours!" Yelena yelled at us as we walked away and I flipped her off.

"That's not what we're doing, we'll be back!" I yelled back at the younger Russian and I could see her eye roll from where I was standing.

"Sure you will!" Sam commented.

"Hey, you're supposed to be my best friend!"

"Yeah but, do you wanna deal with an angry Yelena!" fair point friend. Very fair point.

I didn't reply as I dragged Natasha inside and up to the common room where I cracked the window open. I slid out of the window and climbed up the fire escape to the roof and Natasha followed with ease. I sat down on the edge of the rooftop and Natasha joined me with a smile on her face. I think she loved it up here just as much as I did.

"Do you remember the last time we were up here?" I asked and Natasha nodded.

"Yeah, I hadn't seen you in like 3 days and I went looking for you."

"And of course you found me, you always knew where to look for me." Natasha nodded with a smile.

"I'm not even exaggerating Nat, every time I was lost you found me, I could never hide from you and even if I didn't know it at the time I always wanted you to find me. You were the only one who consistently did." I explained with a lot of emotion laced in my words.
