2021 Nice, FranceI wasn't capable of going back to Eze so I decided to stay in my Nice home for a while just until the buzz around the Dark Wolverine cleared. It was hard enough being in France at all but it was the safest place for me to be considering no one knew where this was and the people that did probably thought it would be too obvious for me to return here. It was perfect.
The home was rather rundown and not as well kept as the home in Eze but it would do for now. I just needed a place to lay low and hope that no other Avengers showed up. It was the last thing I needed and the only one left to visit was Natasha and I wasn't ready for that one yet.
I got out of bed earlier than I had wanted to and went to the fridge to see what I had but I obviously had nothing because I hadn't lived there in years. I looked in the freezer instead and smirked when I found a bottle of vodka and popped it open. Thank you 90's Julia. I took a swig from the bottle and it still tasted halfway decent. I walked around the house with my bottle of vodka looking at all the photos and such; I hated how sentimental I was.
My cell phone ringing got my attention and I looked at the screen to see who it was but it was a number I didn't know. My first instinct was to pick it up so I did.
"Hello"
"Miss. Howlett?" the voice said but I didn't recognize it either.
"Who's asking?"
"Someone who needs someone taken care of." the voice said again and my interest peaked.
"Tell me about it."
"Secretary Ross ring a bell?" I smirked because I would have loved to take this job but if it required me to go back to the States I knew it would be a trap.
"Rings many but I don't travel to the U.S."
"No need, he's going to be attending a party celebrating the anniversary of the Paris Peace Treaty. He will be in France until monday." I was very interested now; lord knows this bastard deserved it more than anyone. It was only Friday as well, I had ample amounts of time.
"It won't be cheap."
"How does $2,000,000 sound?" my eyes widened at the number; it was too much to pass up.
"Make it $3,000,000 and you have a deal." I said pushing for a little more.
"Deal. But make it quiet."
"You got it." I said as I hung up the phone.
My phone rang again but this time it was to notify me that 1.5 million dollars had been transferred to my account and I smiled. Half now, half later. I didn't care who it was that wanted this done but I would do it for the homeless man across the street if he had the means. I hated Ross with a passion and I knew he wanted my head on a silver platter so this deal was a win, win.
I went to my computer and began my research on the location of the party. I realized that it was tomorrow night and I had the perfect opening before he even got to the party. He would be dead before the first toast. I took the information I gathered and began getting ready.
I put my leather jacket on and stuffed the mask into the pocket. I ran down the steps of my house to get to the garage and pulled the tarp off of my motorcycle. My heart clenched a little as I slipped the helmet on and it still smelled like Wanda. It took every ounce of my being not to cry right there but I had a mission to complete and I would be damned if I didn't get it done. I kicked the bike into gear and sped off to Paris. It was about 9 hours to get there but I knew I could make it in 7 with the way I rode my bike.
