2024- Avengers Compound

I felt my stomach turn as we landed back on the platform at the compound. I tried moving but I couldn't and when I looked down I realized I had Wanda on top of me. Not the worst position to be in but also not the time.

"Guys, are you good?" Sam asked and helped Wanda off of me.

"Yeah, we just got caught up and didn't expect the shift." I said, standing up and I looked around for the woman we had just found and there she was sitting next to Yelena trying to catch her breath.

"Nat, you good?" I asked, bending down to her level.

Natasha nodded and rested her hand on top of mine. I took a minute just to look at her, everything had happened so fast I just couldn't grasp her presence. We had succeeded, my best friend was officially back. Even touching her felt like a dream and if it was, I really didn't want to wake up.

"Nat, here you go." Tony came up to us and handed Natasha a bottle of water.

"I'm gonna take her up to the lab and run some tests, make sure she's okay and then you can fill her in on everything, okay?" Tony said and we all simultaneously nodded.

"You guys did it." Sam commented once Tony whisked Natasha away.

"Was there ever any doubt?" I said back and Yelena scoffed.

"It was touch and go there for a moment Wolvie, don't forget that." Yelena patted my face.

"Okay, but we did it, she's back, we succeeded." Yelena's face finally softened and she smiled widely at me.

"Hell yeah we did!" Yelena pulled Wanda and I into a group hug and we all held each other tightly.

Once the hug dispersed Wanda and I decided to retreat back to our room to rest. We both knew Natasha needed to be examined throughout the night just to be sure everything checked out so sleep was definitely a yes for the time being. As soon as we entered the room I noticed this look on Wanda's face I couldn't quite decipher and it worried me.

"Wands, are you okay?" I asked, kneeling down in front of her and I noticed the tears in her eyes build.

"Hey, hey, talk to me love." I held her face in my hands and rubbed gently hoping it would soothe her.

"Red Skull, he didn't say my father's name. He said Erik. I don't know an Erik." I thought back to that moment and she was right, Wanda's father's name was Robert. I can't believe I didn't pick up on that but was able to pick up on Yelena's weird moment.

"I'm sure it means nothing Wands, he said two different names for me-"

"But they were both your fathers, it would've made sense if I knew an Erik but I've never heard the name before. It just confused me, what if the man who raised me wasn't my actual father?" Wanda expressed her worries to me and I had no answer for her. Red Skull was the protector of the Soul Stone, he knows all that enters his realm. There was no way he could be wrong and my heart broke for the woman I love.

"We'll figure it out Wanda, I promise, we'll figure it out but for now, get some rest, you used a lot of energy today and I don't want you to burn out." I laid Wanda down on the bed as she nodded and pulled the sheets down.

I laid down beside her and held her close to me. We didn't say another word, instead I just listened to her even breaths and sighed.

Just more shit to add to the burning pile I guess.

*****

I woke up the next morning with a headache and it felt like I had been drinking all night which clearly I hadn't. I felt like ass though. I turned over in bed and realized Wanda was no longer in the bed with me, I scrunched up my eyebrows in confusion and reached for my phone to look at the time. It wasn't that late as my phone read 11:30am so I threw on a pair of sweatpants and ventured out of the room.
