"This is stupid." I said as I adjusted my tie in the mirror and groaned."No, it's necessary." Sam countered as I grew frustrated with my tie and decided against it as I ripped it off my neck.
"Why is it necessary?"
"Because, the whole world watched you pick Natasha over the universe. You need to allow people to hear your side of the story." Sam explained for the hundredth time but I still didn't get it.
It had been a week since the events of Battle Brooklyn and to say the world was angry was an understatement, they were furious. Video after video was posted online of me choosing Natasha over saving the universe and I got it, it didn't look great but there was no way I was going to lose Natasha again. Even if it meant I could only save us and everyone else had to die. I was over the whole hero bit, I just wanted to live now.
Speaking of living, Wanda had somehow survived 4 surgeries and was now resting in The Raft infirmary awaiting trial. I didn't think she'd actually survive even though that wasn't my best attempt at killing someone, I may have still had a soft spot however small it may be for Wanda but that didn't matter anymore. She was still getting what she deserved.
Our kids on the other hand were okay. I have yet to tell them what happened to their other mother and for now they were staying with Charles at his school for mutants, since that was technically what they were. I rolled my eyes at the thought but Charles was good with kids who had special powers, if anything it would be beneficial for them. We also decided that every weekend, holiday and birthday would be spent with me which meant I had to find a place to live other than the Avengers Compound and besides, it was time to move on, my stint as an Avenger was now over. This was the last mission, I could finally rest after today.
Today I was doing a press conference to somehow try to minimize the impact of my decision that I made in front of the world but I thought it was pointless. I may be able to win over a few hearts but most people in the world would still hate me and honestly I was okay with it.
"Earth to Julia, you going with the tie or not?" Sam asked, breaking me out of my train of thought.
"No, it's not tie worthy." Sam rolled his eyes and patted my shoulder.
"Come on then, Nat and the car are waiting." I nodded as we exited my room.
I walked down to the foye and saw my fiance waiting for me. I smiled at the word fiance, it felt so good to say and as she made eye contact with me she also smiled.
"Ready to get this over with?" Natasha asked and I grabbed her hand in comfort.
"As ready as I'll ever be."
We walked out of the compound and into the car where Tony was waiting for us.
"Bout time, let's get this show on the road." Tony said to the driver and we began the drive to city hall where I would be explaining to the world through a press conference why I chose the woman I love over the universe.
"Do you know what you're gonna say?" Tony asked as he took a sip from his whiskey glass.
"Nope, I'm just gonna wing it." I said honestly.
"Great." Tony said sarcastically.
The rest of the drive was quiet and as we pulled up to city hall I rolled my eyes at all the cameras. I was annoyed already. I exited the vehicle and held Natasha close to me as I walked up the steps. I tried my best to avoid the comments and people yelling as I pushed Natasha through the doors first and followed after her.
"That's not annoying at all." I said while looking at Tony and he shrugged.
"Do you blame them? The hero of the universe just became the most hated person on earth. I think that's a pretty interesting story, no?" Tony questioned and I nodded. He had a point I guess.
