L O V E R - a Leah Williamson story

chapter eleven

After the date Leah and I went to bed cuddling each other. We were in the exact same position when we woke up. "Y/n?" Leah said. "Are you awake?" I groaned and opened my eyes.

"Now I am, I'm surprised that you're actually the first one up." I said, the sleep still evident in my voice.

I felt a shove, "Hey! what was that for?" I laughed.

"For being a smart arse."

I turned over in Leah's arms so that I was facing her. I smiled, "Hi, girlfriend." I whispered.

A huge grin took over Leah's face and her eyes lit up. "Girlfriend. That sounds really good." I leant up and gave her a quick kiss, not wanting anything deeper as we both had morning breath.

"It does." We both got up from bed and took turns in the shower and getting ready. Once we were both sorted we walked down to have breakfast. We sat with Kim, Viv, and Beth - the usual lot. I looked over to Leah, silently asking her if we were going to tell them about yesterday. She nodded.

"Hey you lot." I said as I sat down. I picked up the banana that I got and started to peel it. "We have some news." Leah continued.

Viv started to smirk and I knew she was about to say something stupid. "Don't tell me one of you is pregnant?" She questioned. I pulled a face and lifted an eyebrow. "No Viv, no one is pregnant." I shook my head.

"No it's not that, but y/n and I are now official. Like I asked her to be my girlfriend last night." Leah said with an excited smile on her face. I looked to her and smiled.

"And she said yes?" Beth pulled a disgusted and confused face, trying to make a joke. I joined in, "I know, no clue why." I replied. Leah started to frown and I realised that she didn't get the joke. I took her hand. "Leah we're joking. I love being your girlfriend." The frown on her face turned into a smile.

"You better be." She replied.

"Seriously guys, that's amazing. Congratulations." Said Kim after she finished her toast. "Yeah. It's about time." Added Viv. "I'm really happy for you both." Said Beth lastly.

"Thank you guys, means a lot." I replied.

"Are you gonna tell the rest of the team?" Asked Kim.

I looked to Leah. I didn't mind telling everyone but I didn't know how she felt. "I feel like we won't outright tell them, probably just leave it up to them to figure out." Leah said. That was fine with me.

"Let's go out there and show them who Arsenal are!" Kim shouted. We were about to walk out of the tunnel at Lyon. I was so excited to start this game, but I was also shitting it.

Jordan came over to quickly check up on me, "You'll be amazing. Leah told me about you guys, congrats." She smiled and patted me on the shoulder. I was glad that she wasn't upset that Leah and I were officially dating.

"Thank you Jordan." I replied and looked back down at my feet when she walked off. Leah walked up to me next and pulled me into a hug.

"It's okay to be nervous y/n/n. Just take some deep breath's and you'll do great." She whispered into my neck. We broke away when we started to walk onto the pitch.

The stadium was packed, probably one of the biggest crowds I've played with. I suppose there was a bigger issue with women playing football in the UK than in France. There was just an overall atmosphere of excitement from the crowd that I hadn't experienced in the UK before, which was sad.

The ref blew her whistle and we began with the ball. Lyon was a good team but so were we, and I truly believed in my heart that we could beat them.

The game was rough. Full of dirty tackles and missed shots. It was the 77th minute and it was still 0-0. I had the ball and I was dribbling up the pitch with Beth by my side ready to help. I was running around all the defenders, and passing to my team when they were available. Viv passed the ball to me and we were making some serious advancements up the pitch. I could see the determination on both teams faces.
