To Jason Cooper, women were just conquests. Having grown up with a father who had no respect for the women in his life, he concluded that women lacked backbones and the logic to stand up for themselves.
His theory was further proven as he got older and met women who bowed down to him because of his status and wealth. Consequently, he decided never to claim anyone as his girlfriend, let alone get married. His parents' marriage didn't exactly make him envious of that life.
Jason lived a simple life. He worked hard, picked up pretty blondes for some nights, and repeated. He had no room in his life to accommodate erratic and emotional outbursts often caused by women. To him, they were nothing but a hole to put his cock in.
Amy Rutherford hated men who disregarded women and treated them as if their lives didn't matter in comparison to the male gender. It was partly the reason she was single.
Unlike Jason, Amy was kinder and more patient. She understood that even though many men were unpleasant, it didn't speak for all of them. She knew that one day she would find her prince, and she was prepared to wait however long for him.
Their meeting felt like karma, though whether it was good or bad karma was yet to be decided.
He settled for her the night they met. She wasn't his type, and neither was he hers. He had been eyeing the blonde girl she was with at the club, planning to use one of his foolproof methods of picking up girls. He would pretend to like one friend to get the attention of the one he actually liked. Because women weren't loyal to each other, he knew the friend would be very interested in him by the time he shifted his focus to her.
That evening, however, as if fate had already decided for them to cross paths, another gentleman came to their table and sparked a conversation with the blonde girl he wanted to court, completely ruining his plan.
"You should've just taken your chance with her," Amy said, her voice sweet.
Jason was distracted, not used to women talking back to him. He gave her a tight-lipped smile, more out of politeness than genuine interest. His plan was ruined, so he didn't have to be nice anymore. She wasn't unattractive, but he liked what he liked, and that happened to be blonde girls with boobs so big they just had to be fake. It wasn't that deep; it was simply a night's thing he would forget about the following day.
He could tell by her tone and calm demeanor that she was used to men always going for her friend, not her. He could also tell that she didn't mind that at all; she was content with not being the 'prettier' one in the friendship.
"Can I get you a drink?" he asked, not out of sudden attraction but because going back to his table felt silly at that point. It was the first time his trick didn't work, and he admittedly didn't know how to tread forward.
"You don't have to," Amy replied, knowing very well he wasn't interested in her. She'd known it since he came to the table and sparked a conversation with her, not with her sister, whom everyone always went for.
Kendra was the pretty sibling, she always had been.
In high school, boys fought for her attention, and Amy had even lost a few of her boyfriends to her. It had been hurtful at first but she'd eventually gotten used to it.
She'd even used her sister as her own filter for men. If they'd lost interest in her because of Kendra, then they weren't hers to begin with.
