It was bittersweet.

Her heart ached desperately for the loss of her father, someone she never got the chance to meet.

But the pain was oddly accompanied by a feeling of contentment.

She'd felt joyfully overwhelmed by the warmth her father's family showered her with.

She felt like she was home in their presence, like a place she knew all too well.

It didn't feel at all like she was with strangers.

Amy had always wondered why she'd been so different from the family that raised her, but she realized it wasn't that she was different.

It was that she was missing the other half of herself. She was never given the chance to explore it and that came with its own set of problems.

Consequently, questions were all she'd had since she became of age.

Why did her biological father not want anything to do with her? Was there something wrong with her?

Many years later, she finally got her answers.

She was very much wanted and there was nothing wrong with her.

It was just a complicated situation and she didn't blame either of her parents.

It was society's fault for not letting two people who were head over heels in love with each other have their ever after.

Who knew what would've happened had they been able to stay together? She certainly knew her life would be different, and she wasn't sure she wanted that.

Sure she didn't exactly have it easy growing up, but she acknowledged that she wouldn't be who and how she was if it weren't for the events that had happened in her life.

She might've not even met the love of her life if it weren't for said events.

Amy felt the heavy weight finally get lifted off her chest by the day's events.

It was like simply hearing that she was wanted made all the difference.

Sure there was more to explore there but she felt happy with where she was.

"How are you feeling?"
They'd been on the road for hours.

Jason could tell a lot was going on in her mind so he let her reflect on the events of that day.

It turned out he had some things to think about himself.

"It's weird. I should be balling my eyes out right now, 'cause he's gone and I'll never get to meet him."

"But?"
He read her mind.

"I never got to really know him personally so I guess that's why it doesn't sting too much. Don't get me wrong, I'm sad he passed. I would've loved to meet him. But I'm happy I got to meet everyone.

And I'm happy to finally understand the real reason. There's lots that I need to talk to mom about, but this was one hell of a start and I'm glad we did this."
